Low carb does not equal high fat, unless you are following a specific diet, like keto.

I eat low carb with what would be considered moderate fat. I don't add fat to my diet, I just dont eat processed low fat or no fat products.

Good point. I'll correct the post.

Agreed. Nobody "needs" fruit, nor do nutritionists need qualifications.

Even some registered dietitians are woefully ignorant of our needs after surgery.

Every insurance plan is different. Some will deny if you gain weight, others don't care. We can't tell you what your plan says, so you'll need to call them up and ask; see if you can get the "coverage guidelines" document sent to you.

I did call them to get all the info when I first started the process, but the woman I spoke to really didn't seem to know anything else other than what she read off to me. It didn't explicitly say that gaining weight would exclude me, but it also didn't say going under the 35 BMI would either. However, my surgeon's office said it would. I do know that they do not require any actual weight loss during this phase to qualify. He said, she said I suppose. Maybe I will call again. Thanks!

Surgeons sometimes have different requirements from insurance-- so maybe gaining weight would be OK with your insurance company, but your doctor personally would not approve you for surgery.

Good luck!

I gained 11 pounds during my pre-op weight loss regiment. I don't care what anyone tells you, go ahead and gain but don't lose any weight. Insurance companies have bureaucratic clerks that check boxes. If you don' t meet the threshold, it will be a problem. I have seen many posts about people told to lose weight, not worry and then end up losing the insurance benefit.

Gaining weight just reinforced the message I needed surgery. Your requirement is to be on the program, not to lose weight.

There are programs that will absolutely not schedule you for surgery if you gain. Or even if you don't lose enough. So this could be catastrophically bad advice.
