I had RNY in 2007 and have dumped twice. Both times during year six and both times from mindlessly eating candy on an empty stomach. Both times I was very tired and trying to get some quick energy. I learned not to do that again.

Here is the complete list of foods that you can never enjoy again. _____________________

That is it.

You can eat anything again, but have to make wise choices. Obviously I can eat candy, but don't want to go through dumping, so don't choose to eat it. But most people don't dump at all, even if they do eat sugar.

Dumping is miserable, but it is not dangerous or life threatening. It just means too much sugar hit your intestines at once. I also realized that alcohol hits me too quickly and no longer drink any at all.

I am glad you are getting your surgery and look forward to hearing more about your journey.

I too had lifelong severe GERD and my RNY totally fixed it :)

that said you have to b careful not to overeat and stretch ur stoma out FOREVER ( then the GERD can and will come back though not as severely )

I make sure never to push that extra bite . The second my body signals enough ( usually by sneezing ) that's it .

I'm really surprised you were suffering so severely all these years and your surgeon never suggested a revision to RNY . ((())) hugs

I love what I eat, so enjoyment still there. However, I don't think of food as my old friend. You might want to consider exploring that thinking with a therapist. Our food relationship has to be tackled, not just surgical. My wife and I met a couple this weekend and while we were socializing my surgery came up due to my needing to get out of the sun (skin surgery without sunblock on my arms). It turned out that the couple had two family members who had surgery. Both have regained - one all and one half. They didn't realize the head stuff needed work. It's important.
