Does anyone really regret having the surgery?

Wish I had mine YEARS earlier. I missed out on a lot. Never again! I love being called skinny bi$#H by my sweet husband. (it's an inside joke!)

You probably haven't gone there before, but up on the Forums menu, look for all kinds of horror stories for all procedures here:

One thing you'll notice that there aren't nearly as many related to the DS. Since the DS has been around since 1988, that's saying something.

yikes - I kind of wish I had NOT read these before I had my WLS! It scared the crap out of me and almost made me back out! OP - keep in mind that many of us don't have complications - or only minor ones. People who have serious complications are a lot more likely to post about them because they're seeking advice or support in dealing with them. Those of us who haven't had them don't usually broadcast that fact because....why?? What would be the point? Anyway, because the folks with serious issues are a lot more vocal, it can easily skew your perception and make you think it's a lot more common than it really is. I had a stricture early out (an easy fix, btw). About 5% of RNY patients get them, making it one of the most common complications. I'd hardly call something that affects 5% of us "common", but that does give you an idea...

I was thinking the SAME thing lol. I don't think I'll read the horror stories, thank you.

There aren't nearly as many DS stories -- but a tiny fraction of weight loss surgeries are DS. There wasn't a single DS surgeon in Boston, or all of New England when I was looking. My surgeon's practice alone does between 600 to 700 WLS per year, and not a single DS.

I'd be surprised if 1 out of every 10,000 weight loss surgeries was a DS. It's little wonder we hear so little about it.

D'S is the longest, most complicated, and most radical of the surgeries. So much intestine is bypassed that lifelong complications such as horrible smelly gas and diarrhea are commonplace. They require very close watch of vitamins and minerals, or dangerous deficiencies develop.

Fats are very badly malabsobed, followed by protein. So very high levels of those must be eaten for life. Carbs are absorbed at close to normal levels, so its possible to eat enough crap that you can still gain weight.

Most surgeons found that, because of lack of compliance, and dangerous side effects, it's just not a good option.
