I know, right? Sometimes when "normies" watch shows like that it helps them realized that those of us who lost the weight and maintain it, really have to work on that.

I recently went through a period of rapid regain. Because I weigh daily and track everything, this is not something that I can explain as extra eating or less exercise. I started gaining a half pound a day and it went on for over two weeks. I gained eight pounds in two weeks and cannot account for why.

Since I track everything, I know that the water weight was down and body fat and muscle mass went up. I am cutting calories and adding exercise, but still puzzled as to what happened.

It may be due to decreased metabolism or something else going on. But I do understand how weight loss surgery patients can have huge regains in a short period of time. If I did not weigh daily, I would not have been aware of what was happening.

Be careful with that, Dove. I don't know what your cardiac condition was at the time (or history), but any gain of 2+ lbs. in a 24-hour period should be reported to your family doc, as it can be a sign of congestive heart failure (or kidney function impairment). It's important they do tests to (hopefully) rule that possibility out, without delay. That being said, I very scarily experienced a gain of 8 lbs. in a 48-hour period recently, which is a physical impossibility as far as fat or muscle gain. My family doc ruled out c.h.f. and my blood tests showed my kidneys were O.K., so that remains a mystery ..

That is excellent information. Sometimes our bodies just seem to do things that defy science and also defy common sense. As you said, those are mysteries. Because I use a scale that tracks many functions I know that part of my gain was muscle, part bone mass, and part was fat.

Water weight actually went down.

My father had congestive heart failure. When he would swell up, he used to accuse my mom of shrinking his socks in the washer.

Thanks for this Laura.

There used to be a lady here who was working to increase awareness of this type of thing. I can't seem to find her profile but I believe her name was Sarah; she morphed that name into "Sarahlicious" or similar. (sorry I butchered that name).

Anyway last I checked she had a fb page or a website or both. Born2bfat?

I want to find her because she was/is very very open about her lymphedema. She dialogues with pretty much everybody and she hasn't just accepted herself; she had learned to love herself. After her weight loss surgery she got down the the low 300's and if I remember correctly she had attributed the weight loss stoppage to her compromised health.

Does anyone remember her or can maybe find her OH profile? She is so encouraging.

Thanks!

It's helpful also because her website and fb pages and such are all in her sig line. I think she and her work might be a real asset. Most importantly, she is happy with herself and that is contagious. I hope people give her a look-see.

Ah, I remember her, and "Sarahlicious" was one of the very few members who (had the courage to?) posted regularly on the LE forum back then. Always wondered whatever happened to her .. Thanks for the inquiry ..

She was brave for sure. I think she was featured on a magazine cover or two but I may be wrong.

I do know that she took selfies and had folks taking her picture all the time. That must have been a lot of work sometimes. But she did it to spread awareness and replace myth with fact. =)

Same here, when one of the therapists at our local LE treatment facility (since gone out of biz, for the most part ) saw my legs back in those days. She asked if I minded if they took pics of them to use on their website for examples of what LE looks like. I gave them permission. I think eventually they were actually shown on their home page. Wow - me - a LE model!
