Former NFL QB Jared Lorenzen Dead At (Only) 38
You got a real answer to your real question. There are many ways to lose weight. Statistics show that those who lose without surgery are 95-97% likely to regain the lost weight by the end of five years.
You may be one of those who loses without surgery and maintains the loss. Even with surgery, it is a constant struggle for me not to regain.

White Dove, those who participate in a Medically Managed Program such as the one I am in show that nearly 70% of those who participate in such programs are successful in keeping their weight off 5 years after reaching their ideal weight. That is a higher percentage then those who go through WLS. The stat that you have chosen to cite include those who go participate in such programs as Weigh****chers, Nutrisystem, Optifast, and other for-profit weight loss programs, all of them designed to insure the long term failure of the patient.
You continue to challenge people on here who are 5, 10, 15 + years out of WLS and who are maintaining their weight loss at normal weights.
You are, what? A year into your program with still a significant amount of weight to lose to be anywhere near the success of the people you put down.
Come back and let us know how you're doing in 2029 and we'll talk about YOUR awesome results! Losing weight is easy. Maintaining that loss, especially for life, is the challenge. You've got maybe years to go to lose to a healthy weight (whatever your team tells you about you 0% fat!) Let alone begin the hard work of staying healthy at a healthy weight.
BTW, this forum, while welcoming people who have not had WLS, is a surgery site. I'm surprised YOU'RE surprised that we all talk surgery lol

Some people have to learn the hard way. He will get the surgery when he realizes that it is the only thing that will get the weight off and keep it off. I spent years telling my self that surgery was too drastic and I just had to diet and exercise.
My only regret is not listening to my doctor the first time he told me to get weight loss surgery.

Kim,
I'm not putting anyone down and to make that interpretation is a blatant distortion of the truth. I am calling white out on her misuse of the data she keeps intentionally misrepresenting. Then there is you using 0% fat again. The fact is neither one of you can read or comprehend what you read so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Let's try this one and see what happens. Our clinic just received a Tanita Body Scan analyzer this past week and according to independent sources is within 3% accuracy of the Dexascan you all seem to think is perfection. At 5-7 my fat free mass (0% fat) is 184 pounds making my ideal body weight range between 205 and 225 pounds. According the the BMI chart my ideal body weight is 142 pounds. If my fat free mass is 184 how on earth am I ever going to achieve 142 pounds. It's simple, it is not possible.
Now for the summary, BMI charts, as I correctly pointed out a couple of weeks ago, are not scientific, but just plain BS. Saying that 97% of those who choose methods other than WLS to lose weight is plain BS. The result is, I'm calling you Kim and White, and more specifically your doctors who spew such crap, as plain old full of BS and the data supports my view, not yours. Some time ago, I asked someone who was pushing WLS on a non-surgical thread why they were on that thread and their answer was succinct, they had every right to post where they wanted. I assume the same right applies to me as well. I also want to reply to another falsehood that you have stated. I am 2 years into my program, not one, and I am about halfway to my ideal weight range. The very fact that I didn't stop after 12 months, as so many do, and continue on a downward trend demands your respect, not that I need it or want it. I thought the idea of this web site is to offer support, instead, all you and White can do is tear down or attempt to discredit those who don't have the same experiences or viewpoints that you do.
Again, it's taken you two years to get nowhere near a normal, healthy weight. I did it in less than 6 months and have the benefit of being in the same position 14.5 years after that. You can teach this granny to suck eggs when you're at a healthy weight after 15 years.
Most everyone here lost hundreds of pounds (and gained them back with several of their friends) over and over again. Not everyone is successful with WLS because they expect it to be a magic pill and it's not, just like I'm sure there are plenty of people on your program that do not succeed to a healthy non-obese weight.
I do congratulate you on your progress, you should be proud, but tearing people down because they chose surgery as their way of achieving their goal, on a surgery site, will never persuade anyone that you're the cleverest person in the room.

Again, to repeat, since you didn't read it the last time I'M NOT TEARING ANYONE DOWN FOR CHOOSING WLS, YOU are the only one tearing anyone down and you are tearing me down because I chose differently. All I am saying is that there is another option to WLS. Congratulations on your success, but as even you pointed out, there are as many people who fail to keep their weight off choosing WLS as there are success stories. In fact, the majority of WLS patients end up gaining most if not all of their weight back within 5 years. By the way, it's not about how fast you lose the weight, it's about making life long changes and living a healthy lifestyle. My weight loss is exactly what every medical professional claims is the correct rate at which to lose weight. By the way, the last time I suggested that some folks go into WLS because they see it as a quick way to lose weight, you called me so many names including "nuts", I believe.
