Multi-vitamin once a day
I have been taking the Optisource chewable multivitamin recommended by my program since shortly after surgery. They want us to take it twice a day forever. However, from searching the boards, I know that most stop the chewables within a few months after surgery and I am getting close to six months out. What I would like to know is if it is ok to only take a regular multivitamin once a day. I have recently been forgetting my morning dose. I had VSG and I also take a chewable calcium midday. I would also like to know if there are any multivitamin pill brands/types that you recommend. Thanks in advance.

Everything I've read says we need 2x the RDA so twice a day. I take centrum woman's because each one meets the daily requirements (plus separate iron and calcium)

I received the following directions to follow for the rest of my life from the discharge nurse after surgery:
Take 2 chewable multivitamins each day. I'll switch to 2 Women's Centrum Multivitamin in two weeks once my chewable supply runs out. I understood from my Doctor that our new stomachs cannot absorb what we need from 1 multivitamin so that's why we need to take 2.
Also take 3 Calcium with vitamin D per day. They must be taken at least two hours apart from each other as well as two hours apart from any other medications you take.
In addition, I get a Vitamin B12 injection once per month.
Medical people tend to give the same advice to VSG as they do to RNY. The part of your intestines that absorbs some vitamins has not been removed with VSG. Vitamins are absorbed in the intestines, not in the sleeve or pouch.
I don't believe that you are in any need of the extra vitamins with VSG.
But it would be interesting to hear what others have been told.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
This is actually one reason I was wondering. I took class with RNY patients and they received the exact same vitamin protocol. Thanks for posting!

Check the nutrition info, I don't think a single centrum chewable will get you to the ASMBS recommended amounts of vitamins each day.

Definitely pay close attention to your lab work! You're only four months out from surgery, so your body is likely able to use up your pre-op vitamin stores. The further out you get, the more important it is to get adequate supplementation.
