Keto and Roux-en-Y

I had my RNY 12 years ago, i lost 15# and i've gained back about 40 in the past 5 years or so. I'm still 95 pounds under what i was when i had my procedure, and currently weigh just under 180#. It's a shame really, to have been through so much and have blown it - but, now i'm wanting to get back on track. A lot has happened over the past few years. Got a divorce, finished raising my kids and i'm about to be a grandmother - but, i dont want to look like an old fat granny. I dont mind aging and doing so with dignity, but i dont want to be fat.

i'm uncomfortable with my weight and have been kind of playing around with keto, but i have a hard time making myself eat that fat - and i CANNOT tolerate erythritol (I cant even spell it! LOL)

I'm looking for advice. I posted this on the RNY forum too because it's been years since i used Obesity Help and not sure how things work anymore

It is not the popular choice here, but I am doing very well with Weigh****chers new program. There current program offers many zero point foods, including eggs, skinless chicken breast, fish and seafood, corn, beans, peas, and many others.

I have 23 points a day and many days stick to zero point foods until dinnertime. I like that I can track any foods and do not have to eat high fat foods, like keto. I do it all online and find it easy to track. I had gotten to 29 pounds over goal in the last few years and it was a very gradual pound a month type of gain.

I started Weigh****chers in January and have lost 18 pounds so far. I plan to be back at goal by the end of this summer. For me to lose weight, I need to follow a plan and have a goal. I also have to weigh daily and stay on top of my weight.

when was your surgery and what surgery did you have?

i hadnt even thought about weigh****chers and didnt know that they had zero point foods.

yes, i weigh daily - if i didnt there is not telling how much i would weigh.

i joined! and i love it so far, it's only been a few days - but.................

i'm learning about food and choices and doing better, at least mindful of what i'm choosing.

Any chance you can go see your surgeon/dietitian for them to take a look at everything? Some surgeons are against Keto as fats (and sugars) in general, in high amounts tend to make RnY-ers dump. I am 11 years out from LapBand and 6 years out from my revision to RnY and I still see my surgeon every year for blood draws/review of everything. I know some plans are a little different but sometimes going back to basics is what your surgeon may recommend? You may be eating the same things and your body may need a change, or you may not be eating enough?

I feel the same way about Keto as you do... It's so hard to allow myself to eat certain things... so, even if you wanted to experiment with Keto, maybe even a modified Keto diet based on your specific plan after speaking with a bariatric specific dietitian.

Thanks for your response. I cannot go back to that doctor - who i LOVED because my insurance wont cover it :(

It is heartbreaking but it's just the facts - i did go see the bariatric surgeon that is now on my insurance and all he wants to do is a colonoscopy of all things! WHAT?! I know right? Not helpful!
