Every program is different and you don't know a person medical history. Her doctor and her insurance approved her, we are not here to second guess a persons decision.

"Every program is different ..." and therein lies the problem. There have been enough academic studies done that we have a really good idea of what works and what doesn't. The very fact that EVERY program is different (your words, not mine) tells me, and should tell you, that there is a tremendous amount of quackery in this field. Some of the information I've been given by doctor's comes right out of O Magazine, and believe me when I say that Oprah is about as ignorant as it comes when it comes to nutrition and weight loss. Her obvious yo yoing, even between programs , is proof positive of that.

I had a tiff a couple of weeks ago with one of the patients in our program. A third patient was commenting on her healthy eating habits at Applebee's when she had the grilled chicken breast and I commented that that chicken breast had almost twice the daily recommendations of sodium in it and not only was it not healthy, it was downright harmful. The patient in question then commented that her doctor had told her that sodium doesn't matter because you pee it out when you exercise. I asked this third patient how many calories she burns per week and she didn't even know. Then I told her that my appointment with the Center's nutritionist, who has a Master's degree in the subject, told me that even with the 3,000 to 4,000 calories I burn in excess of consumption on a weekly basis I didn't do enough to warrant in increase in my sodium intake. Further research concluded that my Nutritionist, and consequently myself, were correct, and our Nutritionist doesn't even have an MD.

You are correct Liz, I don't know everything, and I don't pretend to. As I said there may well be medical reasons that WLS was the correct decision for White, but it's also quite possible that it wasn't necessary. All I try to do on this forum is pass on what I've learned, and TESTED to be true, from the Obesity Specialists I work with. What you do with it is up to you, but what I pass along comes from working with my team for the past 2.5 years and the proof that it's correct is reflected in the 100 pounds I've now lost WITHOUT the aid of WLS. I don't respond to specific issues of WLS because I know very little about it, other than from the conversations I've had with WLS Patients at our weight loss center but when it comes to specific questions about weight loss without WLS, my experience with and without Obesity Specialists does give me a knowledge base from which to share. You may not like it and some of the info I share may fly in the face of what you've been told by your doctor, but guess what, it flies in the face of some of the info that my doctors have also given me in the past, but that doesn't make it any less true. Have a great day and good luck with your continuing journey, Liz.

I weigh everyday. But I do not let the numbers alter my day. I use the MyFitnessPal app and it is great because I look only at what my weight was compared to one month ago. It works for me. We should all be doing what works for us. Agreed I love to weigh because I am no longer obese.

Have a a great day,
