Do you wear medical alert jewelry?

my surgeon suggested I get a medical alert charm/token stating that I've had an RNY.

I am curious to see if that's common or not?

I just ordered one that'll i'll make a long necklace to fit under most shirts.

Totally unnecessary for just RNY. Noone is going to pass a blind NG tube in an emergency in the field and if you put "no aspirin", good luck if you have a heart attack.

Ask him PRECISELY what he thinks you need it for. We're really not that special lol. I've managed 15 years without needing one.

I think he's just precautionary about things. I've decided to keep it attached to my purse and it was rather cheap. After reading about it here and elsewhere I think i'm Ok. Lol like you said we are not that special!

I make my jewelry so I wear different things every other day or so.

I have a medical ID bracelet that gives first responders access to my entire medical history; I wear it when playing roller derby or riding my bike, but not all the time. It does not say "bariatric surgery" on the actual tag, but should the ER call to get my medical records, they would get that info, along with all of my meds and whatnot.

I have a medical emergency card in my wallet that with my medical insurance card. It's a diagram of the DS along with a brief description of what has been changed. I had a local surgeon, so it also has his contact information.
