i just have a question. i have lost alot of weight which i great but alot of the wt is coming off my upper legs and the skin on my upper thighs is peeling off in chunks. this has been going on for about 2 months now. it is pretty gross! i went to my pcp and he just blew me off. i really don't think he knows alot about weight loss surgery. has anyone else had this problem or is it just me? i never had this problem before i had the surgery. so what kind of doctor deals with issues like this? i am going to a female ob-gyn nurse practioner on tuesday thinking maybe she can help me. my insurance covers cosmetic surgery but it has to be skin related somehow and i have to have my wt stabilized first. would my surgeon deal with this issue? just wondering. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

It seems like you would benefit from scheduling with a dermatologist and getting your skin problems documented. That is what I would do!

Two things come to mind for the skin shedding so badly: hydration and fat. Both are necessary to healthy skin. Add to that the weather and dry air from heaters and it can be bad...as bad as what you are experiencing. If you're still eating low fat, try adding some healthy fats to your diet. I would also exfoliate to help remove that dead skin at the surface that can't be rejuvenated, then the skin underneath can absorb lotion from the outside.

I've seen a lot of skin issues come up in discussions but I've never seen the term chunks used. You might get more and better feedback if you'd be willing to share a picture.

Take photos and see a dermatologist. Documentation will help you get insurance to pay for the skin removal once you are at goal and stable. But get help, that sounds weird you are losing "chunks". Good Luck!!
