RNY - 10 years old after! Helpeme with your testemony

I read here many reports of serious complications after RNY.
Please, are there health people over 10 years old after uncomplicated RNY? Everybody tak new cirurgies?

Can you share life stories of long term RNYes withouth complications?

I've been following your posts on OH for a while now and I think that you're trying to borrow trouble, Cris. You need to see a therapist to help you with your mental state. OH is not a substitute for professional help.

Good - these are things you should be talking with your therapist about. If you've been seeing this therapist for a while and finding that your mental state isn't improving, it's probably time to find a new therapist.

I agree, I will change the therapist.

When we are 10+ years out we are also 10+ years older. Aging comes with a subset of troubles all it's own. Sometimes it's impossible to tell whether health problems result from being older or if they result from having had the surgery.

For example, I have a couple of chronic illnesses. But who's to say that they were caused by the surgery? Maybe they would have been worse without it?

Agreed with Gwen-- you need better professional help than you're currently getting.

It may be helpful to speak with your surgeon to get his/her statistics on long-term complication rates.

I have a apointement with a new psychologist for this wenesday. She had RNY 20 years ago.

I ABSOLUTELY agree, with the other responders. I could tell you about ME ME ME ME, until my fingers fall off, but that will have NOTHING to do with YOU YOU YOU YOU !!!

If you were pre-op, looking for answers, or a wide eyed newbie, looking for some inspiration, there is lots I would LOVE to share...but you are neither of those...

MY experiences are only MINE. We are all individuals...

BUT, in fairness...to answer your actual question...I will be 17 years post RNY, next month. I had to have abdominal hernia repair, 10 month post, but I had "open" RNY, and did way too much lifting, way too soon (nurse)...I have battled regain, more than once, and have been pretty much at goal, for the past 8 years. My health is good, at 61, BUT, I pay attention, to my eating plan, and to my lifestyle...

I have post RNY friends who have alcohol/drug addictions...some have died...they have NOT/did NOT "follow the rules"
