Just had my surgery yesterday. I'm in so much pain from the gas. I haven't been able to pass any gas yet. TMI I'm sorry. ?

Walking will help! Movement helps get the gas out. Just go slow and steady and don't wear yourself out. If you think it's more than just gas, stay close to your surgery center.

By Monday, you should have this all in your rear view!

I've been walking since 3 hrs after surgery. They discharged me at 11 today and had a two hour drive home. I thought they would keep me a couple of days. ?

Every program is different but I think with laparoscopic many programs send you home next day if there aren't any issues. I was home next day as well. Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip as that's your job for now. Good luck with recovery!

Thank you. I'm walking and sipping. Just feeling sorry for myself. How many days does it take to get the gas to pass. My "roommate" was passing like crazy.

It's only Sunday and I'm finally done with the gas pain. Thanks again for responding so quickly. I definitely was feeling "buyers remorse" and terrified of that pain.

It's amazing what a couple of days can do. Yeah for this surgery!!

Glad you are feeling better! Stay on top of your program requirements and stay hydrated and things will continue to improve for you.

Most likely the pain is from the gas that they used to inflate your stomach cavity to be able to see and do the surgery. This gas is trapped inside your body, and not your intestine. Our body needs to absorb it. Unfortunately. Some surgeons are better than others to get most of the gas out after the surgery. I had 5 abdominal surgeries, and only one time I had the gas pains. One specific surgeon. My other 2 docs really took time to suck as much gas as possible from the body cavity after they were done

It hurts. Really hurts. But it will pass. The gas pain I had lasted app 2 days, 48 hours.

Good luck. Walking helps the body to absorb it.

Thank you so much for the info. I thought I was walking enough but I guess I needed to walk more. . Finally after walking most of the night it's passing. I'm already feeling better. Never had that kind of pain before. Thank you for helping me.

Yep, it is normal to have gas pains. I was passing gas well by day 2... I didn't have much pain though from it (mainly just sore from the drain) and was released the 2nd day after surgery. I was given a stomach binder, which I didn't wear to tightly, but I think it helped also.

Jan. 22, 2019 had RNY surgery. Please send positive thoughts and prayers my way. Thanks!
