Sean Milliken - My 600lb Life - dies
Very sad, and, IIRC, at least the 2nd person from the show to pass within the past year or so .. I note from the article that Sean apparently had regained a lot of his major weight loss prior to his death .. I'll never forget an early surgical pioneer of WLS (RNY) who spoke to a group of us interested pre-ops in Dallas many years ago .. He told us that something like 50% of his WLS patients who ended up experiencing major regain of their EW were dead w/i a year (or maybe it was two) following the regain .. His theory was that the body's major organs just cannot handle the strain on them associated with having the extra weight put back on, being akin to a person who was never obese suddenly putting on that much weight in that short of time. However, in the case of regain, the organs are already weakened from having had to carry that much extra weight for so long beforehand ..
Thanks for letting us know, Kim ..

Happened to run across this article about Sean's passing earlier today .. a bit more in-depth .. It also seems to dispute that he had regain problems following his weight loss ...

I remember watching him on my 600 pound life. He was 1000 pounds when Dr. Now put him in the hospital and lost hundreds of pounds while there. His Mom kept sabotaging him and was bringing in fast food. Dr. Now lost his mind and told her she was going to kill him...

Was Sean the one that Dr. Now actually banned from the hospital?

This is very upsetting, especially because it felt like, to me, Sean had been enabled to such a degree by his mother for his entire life that even at 29 he was in some ways developmentally delayed. It was weird to seen a nearly 30 year old having no idea how to do even the most basics in life. It's sad because it feels like the deck was stacked against him more than others.
