This new weight loss surgery will make you say WTF?

I recently learned about AspireAssist. It is the newest weight loss surgery / medical device that I am aware of, and is performed by a bariatric surgeon. From their website "...there are no specific foods that are off-limits with the AspireAssist..." instead patients consume whatever foods they desire then suction the contents of their stomachs out into the device through a port in their abdomens and flush the chum down the toilet.

Are you saying WTF? I am.

As a former binger and purger, this so-called solution spells disaster to me.

The manufacturer promotes that the device is portable... so you can take it with you... perhaps to family holiday dinners and first dates over dinner and drinks... imagine the impression you will make!

Yep, I have heard about and read about it. I think was a thread posted here a while back about the procedure and how frankly disgusting it is. There may have been an article written here on it too, but I can't remember for certain.

Definitely falls into the category "just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should". I wonder what these researchers were thinking...and the doctors that signed up to do it...boggles my mind.

Unfortunately, that 'surgery" has been around for awhile now. I would think though it would have gone extinct before now, once people realize how silly it is (not to mention gross) ..
