3 day VSG post op
Hello everyone, I'm new here and I'm also newly sleeved. I'm 3days post op. I was wondering if it was normal for my legs to feel heavy and tight after the surgery. I'm walking everyday getting 10,000 steps in so I don't know why my legs feel like this. Should I worry and talk to my surgeon? Thanks for listening
10,000 step is several miles (at 2-3 feet per step). You are only 3 days post op, so you are still getting the anestheia out of your system and you prob haven't lost all that much weight. 25,000 feet is 4-5 miles.
My reaction is - You should absoltely tell your surgeon that you are already walking several miles per day.

I'm sorry, I do not mean to be critical, but I am side eyeing the assertion that you are walking 5 miles a day 3 days post op. The day after I left the hospital (3 days post op) I couldn't walk more than 5 minutes or about 300 feet without extreme burning pain in my largest port scar. Can you please elaborate?

Hello, Haley,
It's ok to be critical since you don't know me. Everyone's experience is different in my case while at the hospital I was getting 4-5k steps after my surgery. Out of 6people that had had the surgery that day, I was the only one that was allowed to go home. I had no pain no vomiting and had nausea once. Coming out I have been drinking 50oz of liquid by doing 1oz every 10min using my timer on my phone. So for me at now 4days post op I walk up and down stairs at home and walk at the mall to get my steps. As for my legs, today the feeling is gone. Thanks for trying to answer my question and the criticism. Have a great day

Congrats on getting through surgery and with your progress thus far. I recommend you focus on upping your water intake as dehydration is the most common issue post-op. A minimum of 64 oz is the daily requirement to minimize complications. Good luck.
Hi! It seems like the feeling is gone now?
If it happens again, I'd recommend calling your surgeon just to ask and ease your mind - that's what you're paying them for, after all :)
You might also consider propping your legs up when you're sitting, if you're not already. That might help.
