Hi all,

Do any of you use an Omega 3 Supplement that you'd recommend because you've seen positive impact on your HDL?

Backstory: My partner has low HDL. He doesn't eat fish, which of course is always the recommendation. I suggested nuts but he said he'd rather take a supplement because he believes he'd have to eat a lot of nuts. (It's really only like 10 a day, but whatever.)

The best Omega 3 supplement is a fish oil IMO. No flax oil, or vegetarian. Any fancy fish oil would do, Carlson brand is good quality, but $$.

The best fish oil - IMO would be something that is natural, additives free and tested for Mercury - Mercury free, non detectable. The last one is really critical. When I buy one I make sure I can tolerate it. It can't have nasty smell out of the bottle. Plus I wouldn't take any of it, if I have "burping the oil" problem; as in - take the pill, and later start burping with a fish oil smell /taste.

I found that Costco brand fish oil- salmon oil meet my requirements, and is really affordable. I also use concentrated krill oil, because it really does not smell, and small cap is easier to take.

I would start slowly, one cap a day. Then increase to 2-3 per day if needed. It can be considered a blood thinner. So it may interfere with other meds. Supplements like that I try to take daily, but if I am taking them long term, I often skip a day or 2 per week.

He's already got that pretty well in hand - hence looking for a supplement.
