Biatric surgery

Diligence and failing every day seem pretty mutually exclusive. Having a surgery that just enables a continued unhealthy relationship with food also seems to defeat the point of being healthy.

And how is regain a shortfall that's exclusive to the VSG? You can eat around any surgery. You can regain with any surgery.

I'm still wondering why a surgeon would have done a lap band, on a person who weighed 547 pounds. Even 10 years ago, they knew they were a crap shoot...SMH

No surgery wars, from me...but...Day-hum

a lot of pre-ops worry about saggy skin. I worried about it *incessantly*. I eventually did have plastic surgery (no one else could see my saggy skin - it was very easy to hide - but I got tired of looking at it). But I am here to tell you that I would take my saggy skin any day over weighing my original 373 lbs. ANY DAY!! Not even close. In retrospect, the saggy skin was such a minor thing that I have no idea why I wasted even one brain cell worrying about it. I am SO much happier and healthier now!

I looked at getting the VSG surgery, but I was self pay and at the last minute the surgeon raised the price by $4000. I couldn't get the new price financed because of my credit so I looked at other options. I tried some probiotic pearls, and so far I've lost 125 lbs. I still have a quite a bit more to lose, but I'm getting there. I was overweight throughout my childhood, and have been obese my entire adult life so far. The sagging skin is an issue (although so far not as much as I thought it would be), but I look at it as a positive since it means that I have lost quite a bit of weight. I'm not trying to push probiotics on you. I'm offering it as an option to look into. You should absolutely research all of your options before doing anything especially anything permanent. Good luck on your journey.

Congratulations on your weight loss. And best wishes for you to reach whatever goal you've set for yourself. I'm also a non weight loss surgery member of OH and have lost a lot of weight too. I guess it's a perpetual struggle whether you have the surgery or not!

I would encourage you to get into counseling, I am a Mom so I totally understand her wanting the best health for you. However, I agree with previous posters that it has to be something you do for you and no one else.

Perhaps addressing your eating issues will help you ascertain your own motivation to loose weight. Even if you decide you aren't ready you will have been successful. So counseling is my best recommendation.

Pros for me: knees that don't hurt anymore

Being able to wear my own clothes again

Seeing myself be successful

Cons for me: surgery isn't fun (but recovery was way easier than I thought it would be)

No matter what, hang out in the forums, ask lots of questions and BEST wishes!
