New Member - Waiting for Surgery Date

Agreed Private Citizen, the diabetes revision was the reward, that was what I was trying to state. I must not have been clear with the entire comment. I am brand new to the surgery 4 days in and thought I could provide some insight to the process that "old timers" might have forgotten.

Unfortunately, I did not receive the gift of "not being hungry" unless it comes when I finally get to add solid food back. Drinking shakes without being able to eat solids is my battle and wanted to share.

my comment to not weigh yourself as soon as you get home, does not refer to multiple weighting's daily or weekly, continually, rather specific to getting home from hospital, because if others think the same as I did, They could expect to see a reduction in weight not an increase.

I take full responsibility and am not a victim, I have waged many wars.

i Hope my comments are clearer now and were to help and support another new person pursuing this surgery.

Hiya! At four days post-op hunger can be a sign of acid or dehydration. Most of us tend to take a PPI for the first month or two post-op. How much liquid are you getting in?

? I never correct anyone, or challenge their experience. I read, understood what you said.

I shared my experience and opinion, which is usually about more than me, and my joy that there is another answer for a world of diabetics told they have to survive on meds, and gain weight, for life. I am not a diabetic but am grateful to see friends have more options.

What I have realized is misinterpretation goes both ways. It happens.

Yes, mine was starvation testiness, lol

i'm keeping a log , 64-68 oz a day

the protein shake isn't helping, feel like I need food, even pulverized scrambled eggs would do. I can't because it's too close to surgery.

im getting 70-90 grams of protein a day

im also taking the acid reduction pill too.

maybe head hunger? I had a fever 102.8, after taking Tylenol it's been 99.3

Erk - have you talked to your surgeon about the fever?

I really liked crunching on sugar free popsicles immediately post-op. I just needed to chew, you know? :)

I think that is what's missing is the chewing. I was given 1 in hosp, but I have some at home, have been having trying those but had weird tastes after surgery, popsicles chemically, even the protein shakes I liked before surgery taste watery, my husband heated up bone broth an it was bitter. Would anesthesia do that?

About the fever, I called on Friday and spoke to nurse. At the time my temp was 100.8. She told me "they don't care until it's 101.5. I said I care and I usually run a sub temp. She said call us when 101.5.

started getting chills, headache, temp was 102.8. I called, of course office was closed, nurse on call said go to the emergency room. I said my insurance charges $175 if I'm not hospitalized (And the drive was 40 min to hospital).

She called surgeon who didn't even speak to me even though he was on call. The message from him was to take Tylenol and if fever goes up, call nurse

it went down to just below 100. Been hovering around 99.3 to 99.9. I guess I'll live until Monday, lol.

Anesthesia can make things taste weird and so can bariatric surgery. So, we get a double whammy. It doesn't happen to everyone, but most of us find that some things no longer taste good and some things we didn't like before we now love. Tasting the chemicals in SF foods is a common thing people complain of. It doesn't last forever, normally, but it's not a quick resolution either.

Yes, anesthesia can totally do that - especially early on...old nurse here...and so can ketosis...
