Breast Cancer related to RNY Gastric Bypass???

I hope your surgery goes well; cancer diagnosis and the subsequent actions are so hard. Do you have a good support system in place?
Is there something in your diagnosis that ties the cancer to your RNY? I have not heard of that as a possible side effect previously so I'm very curious about the connection.

Depends on the type of abnormal breast tissue you have. I had surgery a number of years ago to remove an ALH (atypical lobular hyperplasia) lump in my right breast. Everything went fine and no cancer was diagnosed; however, I was informed that this type of breast tissue puts me at increased risk of invasive breast cancer in either breast in the future. This is not the case for ADH (atypical ducal hyperplasia) tissue, which can be a pre-cursor to cancer in the breast where the cells were found.

Actually, RNY is linked to a reduction in the risk of breast cancer.
> In a national, population-based cohort study, 8,794 patients who underwent bariatric surgery for obesity had a decreased risk for cancer of the breast, endometrium, and prostate (odds ratio [OR] 0.25, 0.21 and 0.37, respectively), compared with 8,794 matched controls who did not have surgery.
