Good morning OHers and happy Monday!

i don't believe in new yesr's resolutions, I think they set you up for failure and way too much pressure. I do, however, believe in having a plan for the new year! I'm curious as to what 3 things you plan to accomplish in 2019?

My three big items for 2019

  1. Get my big relocation done
  2. Re-engage back at the museum volunteer program once I'm relocated
  3. See my first opera

i have other things on my to do list but this is the top 3.

I got rid of all my regain during 2018 and my goal is to stay weight steady and healthy in 2019.

Redecorate my kitchen - I'm dreading it and have been putting it off for 2 years, despite having the money saved!

Take at least one vacation at a beach resort.

Those are great 2019 plans! I know what you mean about the redecoration though -- I am not good at that kind of stuff and so I put it off as much as possible.

we just replaced our counters, faucet, and sink about a month ago. We've been sitting on this for about four years. What finally prompted us to do it was the faucet had a pretty bad leak and the plumber said it was beyond repair; we'd have to replace it. So since we had to replace that, we figured we might as well finally do the sink and counters, too. I HATE those kinds of projects - but I must admit, our kitchen looks so much better now!

I even paid a planner to come out and plan the whole thing ... 3 years ago lol.

We redid a whole kitchen in our house in PA 20 years ago and I'm not sure I'm over it yet lol. I get anxious just thinking of the upheaval and mess. I wonder if it would fly with Jim for me to go on a holiday for a couple of months and come back when it's done????

I saw your pictures and your kitchen looks lovely!

I'm not a resolutionist, but I believe in setting SMART goals. Last year... I went overboard with my goal setting and it was overwhelming. For 2019 I'm going back to keeping it simple.

  1. Finish BS degree
  2. Races
    1. Rock n Roll half marathon in March
    2. Navy Air Force half marathon in September
    3. Baltimore 5k in October
    4. MCM10K in October
  3. Log at least 15 minutes of exercise OR 5000 steps EVERY SINGLE DAY
  4. Achieve crow pose in yoga practice
  5. Reach normal BMI
  6. Use a physical cookbook in meal planning once a month
  7. See my mom once a month
  8. Quality time with friends once a month
  9. Prepare for The Big Move (the specific goal for 2019 regarding this is to get the bathrooms renovated)

That is a great list -- and very specific, measurable, attainable and timebound. Ahhh, I love it when I can speak HR/Performance management. #9 sounds like you are doing some major renovations to get ready to sell?

Hahaha, thanks :)

We're planning on moving to PA in 2020 (between Philly and DE, preferably Chester County), so 2019 is a prep sort of year for that. We can't move until I finish my degree since in state tuition is a REAL THING. :) Our home was built in the 70s, though, and still has the original bathrooms and kitchen, so those things must be fixed before we can sell. The "master" bathroom is such that if you built it in The Sims, your sims would just spin around and pee on the floor, since they'd be unable to access the toilet ;) The major issue is that the shower in that bathroom is all non-functional. It's not a problem for us to only use the other shower.... but, yeah, we really need to fix that before we try to sell the house :D

Moving when you already own a home seems super overwhelming to me.

Ooh I like this! Two came to mind instantly and then the third popped into my mind.

  1. LOSE MY REGAIN. 25 lbs MUST go in 2019. I am setting myself up for success now, in the last month of 2018, weighing and measuring my food and tracking every bite in MFP.
  2. Take the kids to Europe! They have never been. I think Italy would be a great "entre" to Europe. Especially since the girls are picky and at least that's a place they can eat pizza and pasta and gelato for every meal and be happy lol. I fiercely believe they need to see the world.
  3. Take advantage of my company's training and development opportunities...I have been at the same level in my career for about five years and while I don't particularly want to be a Chief Marketing Officer, I think 2019 is the time for me to make a small jump, within my company.

This was a nice thought-provoking exercise, Jen! And I like seeing what everyone else has planned!
