Starting the process

hi all! I am new to this journey and feeling nervous. I just attended a required bariatric seminar at my local bariatric clinic. I think this is the right move for me but boy I'm nervous. Im not really sure my purpose of this post but I thought I'd reach out and see who has wisdom to share! My journey will likely be Roux-en-Y.

Thanks all!

Welcome to the boards! There are so many helpful people here and it's a great place to get questions answered. You can read through previous posts and get lots of information that way and ask away for anything you can't find! Good luck on your next steps!

WELCOME !!!!

"Nervous" is a GOOD thing! I worry about the peeps, who come in here, who think they already know everything, or are trying to outsmart all the "tried and true" systems...

"Nervous Newbies", on the other hand, I adore :)

I was so nervous about surgery and thought I was crazy for thinking about it even! Best decision of my life and I am betting it will be yours too!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I plan to do some scrolling to read past posts. One thing I heard over and over at the seminar was SUPPORT IS KEY! So I'm starting here! (Besides my family and friend support!)

can someone tell me their experience post op? What was adjustment like? Eating protocol? How did you FEEL? Emotional changes?

Go hang out on the RNY board and join in on the daily menu thread as soon as you embark on a healthy eating program (even before surgery). You'll get to know people and see what successful people are eating. It really will help.

I was just about to suggest the menu thread as well. I started posting daily almost as soon as I began the process, and I feel like it REALLY helped get mentally prepared for the new way of eating. By the time surgery came around I'd already cut a significant amount of carbs and other vices.

I don't participate because I'm so far out, but I really think it's one of the best tools on OH. Those of you who post every day are a great resource to pre ops and newbies. The fact that you get great accountability and support is a bonus. You're providing a stellar service

Over the four years I have posted to the menu board I have seen so many "regulars" come and go and have contemplated stopping as my menu can seem repetitive. Honestly, I think posting helps me too. I have found some great people on that thread. I do love seeing when some of the old posters come back every once in awhile and post.

Welcome!

I researched this surgery for 3 years, and was still nervous when I had my surgery in Nov 2001. Although I am getting back on track after regaining 45lbs the last 2yrs, it is still the best decision I have ever made just for myself!

Please realize that this is a life long decision and that every day you need to make a conscious decision to eat right! I got lazy and stopped tracking and thinking about what I was putting in my mouth, life got out of hand for me.

Surgery will not fail you, you are the only one that can decide that. It was probably the hardest decision I have ever made, but would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to.

I wish you the best of luck!!
