Meaty snacks
on 10/30/18 6:37 am
I feel there are many ways for this topic to go sideways, but that might be good for a laugh!
what meat snacks do you consume? Do you have a favorite jerky that's not quite such work to chew? Anyone make your own version of slim Jim's or anything like that? I say "meat snack" but I'm really thinking meal replacement I can keep in my travel back.
Ive tried some of the chomps and the chef's cut and really like spicy versions. I'm finding as I eat less, my taste for spice is going up, I've also used the volpi roltini but they are feeling like too high calories for the protein. I tried the Vermont snack sticks as well but it was early out and they didn't agree with me...and that was at an Airbnb with shared bathroom facilities and now I'm very scared, lol. And that's probably TMI.
Looking forward to some new ideas/brands/thoughts!

I bought a dehydrator and have made salmon jerky, but I haven't found the right marinade yet. Too salty the first time and too sweet the last time. I'll eventually get it right. I don't eat meat so it's only fish for me. I used to love the ahi jerky but it's so expensive, that's why I figured I'd make my own. Ahi is too expensive so I figured I'd experiment on salmon first.

I've been making my own jerky for years! My husband eats a ton of it, so I make a large batch every week or so. I got a dehydrator on Amazon for about fifty bucks, and it's served us well.
We like it very spicy, so I use two kinds of hot sauce and some spicy seasoning. But it's really to adjust the mixture to be however you like it!

I really like the Chomps. I keep them, 20g Protein bars, cheese, and lunch meat at work for snacking. I work in an office so we have a refrigerator. I'd have to agree I'm just starting to like spicier food before I could take or leave spicy before. Funny, my husband made chili Monday night and after dinner I asked him to add more chili powder and cumin to the simmering pot to spice it up... He was very surprised.
Would love to get more snack and meal ideas for work.

A go to when I am out and don't have access to anything is Jack Link's steak stick and a string cheese. Its tough to chew though.
Epic brand makes a chicken jerky bar which is soft and delicious.
Have been trying to decide if I want to dabble in doing it myself with a dehydrator though.
I like the Jack Link's Tender Cuts. They are much easier to chew than regular jerky. I have very sensitive teeth, so don't eat much jerky. But when I do, I love these.
The only other "meat snack" I eat is Jack Link's Hickory Smoked Bacon Jerky...for when I'm traveling or just too lazy to cook my own!

Thank you everyone! I am seeing some Jack Links and a dehydrator in my future!
