What is the dumbest thing a nutritionist has told you?

Mine, like a lot of others out there, recommended mashed potatoes and applesauce in the early stages! And told me carbs were fine as long as they were from brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat...not white carbs. Well if WLS patients knew how to eat healthy carbs and normal quantities of food, WLS would likely cease to exist. I don't know a lot of morbidly obese people whose obesity is thanks to too much lettuce, chicken and quinoa!

I was pretty lucky in that the dietitians with my surgeon's practice always, always recommended protein first, then non-starchy veggies, to minimize starches, sugars, and simple carbs, and told to measure our food and not eat to feeling full.

The only two pieces of advice I disagree with are using soy milk for protein shakes and going with low fat dairy/ only having two teaspoons of healthy fats per day.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I've seen two nutritionists. I like the one from the surgeon's office cause her pre-op recommended changes were gradual and easy to acclimate to. Post op she absolutely preaches protein first, then veggies and maybe carbs. I also like that she gives printed meal ideas. Recently she said - if you can eat it with just your hands (no utensils), its probably a bad carb. (Think bagels, candy, cookies, crackers...so true!)

The one I saw with my job's wellness program held steadfast to typical myths... 'muscle weighs more than fat'. Ugh. She often told me I needed to up my calories. I follow the beat of my own drum and take what I find valuable and leave the rest.

Eat a low fat diet. I am a DSer, we do not need to eat low fat.

Not a nutritionist, but I had a personal trainer tell me not to eat carrots, as they would cause me to gain weight because of my blood type.

Lol, I really honestly laughed out loud at this one. How ridiculous. No wonder I gained all my weight, it's my blood type!

If I remember correctly, there was at one time a diet based on blood type. It was some time ago but I'm pretty sure I remember the book.
