I'm glad you asked this question. It's very hard for me to admit to others and to myself when I have lost my way and need help!

My answer to your question is incessant nausea. I have had ongoing nausea since RNY 2 months ago, first from a stricture and then from trying to transition from full liquids to solid, dense proteins.

As a result of the ongoing nausea, I resorted to high carb slider foods. I think I did this to eat something that didn't make me feel so ill. More, importantly (old habit alert!), I did it because I felt sorry for myself. I'm using food to soothe difficult emotions.

Has anyone else ever fallen down the high carb slider foods rabbit hole . . . and this early after WLS? How do I dig myself out?

Hi Gwen: I think that is a good recommendation. I meet with my psychiatrist again on Monday. In the meantime, I have gotten recommendations from other posters on the best foods for me to try. I hope I'm making a U-turn and heading back in the right direction.

Just want to encourage you that you've already made that U-turn. It began when you first realized that the carbs could be a problem for you. Since then you've posted, made some changes and are considering making some more. You're not afraid to hear new ideas and then to actually try them and nothing but good will come of that.

I've got a feeling you can handle this. It might not be fun, but it will pay off in success. Nausea is hard and chronic nausea can be disabling. Good for you for not staying down and out.

Don't dwell on the past. This is the time to dig your heels in mentally and figuratively. You don't get 'the beginning ' back.

My advice is cold turkey on the carbs for a couple of days. At this point you can eat so little protein should be 90% of what you are eating.

I know they say 60-80g a day but once I could I shot for 100g.

I understand nausea. I carried tic tacs with me everywhere for a year or more. Honestly I still carry them 'just in case' of nausea.

Hi:

Thanks for the support. I tend to spend too much time picking on myself for all the things I do wrong. You're right, doing that is not going to change anything that already happened! I waste a lot of energy that way.

Instead, I'm going to use that energy and take your suggestions. It's still very early, but I have only had protein do far. Like you said, I have to just quit the carbs and today is the best day to do it!

I'll probably have to look back at your post throughout the day to keep me on track!

Good Morning Joyce,

Sorry I am late in replying as I was out for a few days. Everyone has given you great advice. Since the nausea started with you trying solids, it's OK to go back to liquids for awhile longer. Everyone is different and on different time tables... Once you try again, do your proteins by adding one at a time and see how things go.

As far as you turning to carbs, we all have a life time bad food habit that will stay with us. Mentally we automatically go there when times are tough. That is why it's a great idea to talk to someone. If you have access please to go a support group via your surgeon. My surgeon's support group the first year was key for me when I hit road bumps. Great place to ask questions and get advice and support from others.

Please let us know how you are doing OK?
