What surprised you the most about weight loss surgery?
Looking back over the last 2.5 years I'd say the two biggest surprises were how easy the surgery was for me (I expected nausea at least but never experienced it) and how much my body pain receded. My back pain when walking went away after the first 20-30 pounds (can't remember exactly) and my knee pain, foot pain, and other body pain went away as my weight dropped.
Oh and I am surprised at how much my food preferences changed. I never liked fish much, but now it is my favorite protein. Coffee was drunk for the caffeine in the morning, but I love it and crave it all day now.

A few things surprised me.
- I never thought that this surgery would make me feel young again. My energy level, fitness level and my brain have all gone back to my early 40's. Who'd of thought?
- My physical issues are gone. All gone! No sleep apnea, my knees no longer hurt, my flexibility is back, fatty liver disease reversed and GERD all GONE!
- My palate has changed. I crave salads and protein and no longer seek out sweets.
- Confidence - I have confidence. My new body has provided me with the confidence I have been lacking for years. I step up. I don't hide at the back of the room, I make conversation and I allow people to take pics of me.
Best decision I ever made.

One of the biggest surprises for me is how my food tastes have changed. The smell of fast food used to make me hungry, now when I walk through a food fair at a mall I actually feel grossed out by the smells. And carbs like bread, rice, and noodles now just seem like unwanted filler.
The other surprise was that I actually enjoy walking! Sometimes I'll take the long way to somewhere, just to enjoy the walk.
It's a transition for sure Sometimes I think we are so focused on the number on the scale we forget to address all the other changes. When all was sad and done and I had lost over 200 pounds I liked like the incredible melting women. I was over the moon happy for the weigh loss but overwhelmed with the "new" me.
Take it one day at a time and I love that......no one asked for the fat back
Take care,
Kathy
