Upper gi vs endoscopy
- So i had surgery rny 2003 lost 110 pounds have since gained it all back been also having problems with stomach pain nausea hearburn a Cough finally found a surgeon willing to find out whats wrong as my dr seems to think its ibs .. The surgeon ordered a Barium upper gi .. I thought he would want to do an endoscopy ..anyone have any idea why he want an upper gi instead of an endoscopy I thought that was the only way to see if anythings wrong with my stomach.. Oh and I also can eat whatever i want now and as much as I want even tho I dont
At 9 1/2 years after my RNY my pouch is 2-3 ounces (measured during endoscopy). I can't eat all I want of solid food. I'm sure I could eat "slider" foods in excess, but I have restriction.
All said - I have currently lost 13 of the 15 pounds of regain and it is WORK. I won't let myself get this much over my goal again as It takes so long to get it off.

It's EXACTLY why so many people regain most of their weight at 10 years.
I'll bet all of our anatomy is the same at 10 years, and we all have the capability to eat however much we want. How much we have regained is whether we have given in or not!

After 15 years anyone with RNY can eat as much as we want.
White Dove, I have to respectfully disagree with you about "anyone with RNY" being able to eat as much as they want at 15 years out. Both my husband and I are exactly 15 years out and we both know our limits as to how much we can eat. We both need to keep our portions of food to a cup or less of dense protein, raw food (veggies or fruit ETC). If we go a couple of spoonful/forkfuls of food over we pay the price and are miserable for several hours. We both still dump easily on sugar or fat. This is a positive/negative reinforcement for us to stay away from those empty calories. We have both watched our diets and lifestyles over the years and have kept our weight off - close to 200# for Dave and 120# for me. Though my husband has become less and less mobile he has not gained any weight. I am more mobile and within the last two to three years I have downsized our home of 40+ years and moved us into a condo. He is 71 and I am 65.
Have a great week-end!
