Wearable Technology Activity Trackers - Recommendations??

True on this, the iPhone has a built in step counter and I do sometimes double check that count vs my watch count (if I've carried my phone all day).

My problem is that since my phone no longer fits in my (smaller) pockets, I don't always carry it on me.

I have an Apple Watch series 3. I absolutely love it. i had the series one and after 2.5 years upgraded to the 3 since I can wear it while swimming and the battery life improved immensely with the series 3.
Its not a usb charge- or evening a lightning port, it charges on a magnetic disc.
Its definitely durable, neither of mine have even a scratch on them. (My son uses the older one now)
yea it tracks all the things you want- just be careful how you use that information. I like that you can set a daily goal for calorie burn. Apple Watch has tons of 'reward badges' you can earn which are motivating to keep you moving. While it can track sleep- I don't wear my watch at night- I let it charge overnight. When I hang my watch for the night he battery is only 1/2 depleted.
its compatible with my fitness pal but I don't Ever look at MFP from my watch, I rely on my phone for MFP.
With the announcement of the series 4, the rest of the series should come down in price. I would NOT buy a series 1 now- technology is too old.
I had had a fit bit one and after accidentally Washing it I gave up on it. My sister had issues with the band in the wrist fitbits- so I lost interest in them.

I second what Peach said about the Apple Watch series 3- it's awesome. The reason I bought it was so I could swim while tracking my laps/distance, time and speed. I previously had a fitbit alta, which was fine for just tracking steps.

What do you think of the calorie burn readings? I think they are very accurate for my runs- when I compare how to manually calculate my calorie burn from a run, I almost always get what my watch does. So I think it's accurate for specific exercise- but not for general calorie burns from sitting, breathing walking etc.
i still don't plan those Calories back to it my day though. Unless I start looking like skeleton, but with the way I love carbs, that is hugely unlikely to ever happen.

I think the work outs are pretty accurate also and seem to reflect my effort from day to day - higher when I'm killing it and lower when I'm slow - I like that. On a good day I still don't pull out the numbers I see other people report - like 1500+ cal burn? That just doesn't seem right. For me counting the calories back would defeat the purpose of working out. I know plenty of normies that work out so they can eat whatever they want and do! I'm jealous.

Good to know! I'm still working to get to goal and it's getting harder and harder.

I have used Garmin Vivofits since 2012 and am on my third. You change batteries once a year and you can use them in water. The Vivofit 2 that I currently am wearing does not track in water, but it is convenient that I do not have to take it off for the shower or pool.
It is my watch and tracks steps and sleep.
I also have a Garmin Index Smart Scale that tracks weight, BMI, muscle weigh****er weight, and bone mass. I have had several DEXA scans and the results are very close to my Garmin.
I have no confidence in any device that tracks calories. MyFitnessPal connects with the Garmin software.
I picked Vivofit because I do a lot of my exercise in swimming pools.
