Wearable Technology Activity Trackers - Recommendations??
on 9/12/18 5:40 pm - Greater Toronto Area, Canada
I'm looking to get a wearable technology activity tracker. Any recommendations?
I'm looking for something that is:
- Easy to charge - ideally usb or micro usb
- Charges last long
- Durable - I want to last at least 2-3 years before I have to upgrade
- Tracks daily calorie burn, steps, calories burned when exercising, heart rate/pulse. If it can track sleep and sleep quality that would be cool, but not required
- Compatible with MyFitnessPal and wireless updates
- Has an iOS app
- Value for price
- More accurate caloric burn compared to MyFitnessPal and exercise machines @ the gym

I lost 100% of my excess weight.
Currently re-comping body/losing vanity pounds prior to plastics.
I've used a Fitbit One for the last 6 years, but they stopped making it. I don't know what I'll do when it dies. I really dislike the wrist wearable trackers.
Anything that claims to count calories burned is going to be way, way off. I have just ignored that information. I paid attention to the sleep tracking at first, but I also found that information of no value.
In the end, I only care about steps per day and active minutes. Anything else is window dressing.

My One from 2012 was no longer holding a charge very well this past spring, and when I went to find a new one, discovered it had been discontinued. I paid about 70 bucks over list price on eBay for a new unit. I'm not sure what I'll do in a few years when this one is worn out. Everything is watches these days, and I'm not going to wear a watch.

I use a fossil Q watch -- all it does it tell time and count steps; it runs on a normal watch battery so never needs charging; easy app to use. I've used Jawbone, Fitbit, and at least one or two others and i find all the bells and whistles to be cool at first and then useless later and the constant charging was a PITA. I like the fossil because it's simple, looks good and does just what I need.

I love mine, it looks sharp and does what's needed! I made the switch when I was traveling with friends and realized there would be more charging cords than outlets/extension, lol

I have a fitbit blaze. I love mine and I love fitbits in general. I am thinking of upgrading to the newes****ch. Mine works perfect, I just want the new one. It's shiny.
I do not pay attention to the calories burned, because its way off. What I do like is my steps, my active minutes, the stopwatch and countdown is handy while working in a hospital, and I can read my texts on it. On amazon, $175.00
No machine or watch is going to have accurate calorie burned amounts. I don't believe we shouldn't eat calories back, however if I ate back the on average 1200 calories fitbit says I burn, I would be in trouble. Depending on how I feel, I may eat back 1/3 to 1/2 of the calories.
