My husband is considering surgery

And I'm excited for him but also nervous of course. I had my VSG 2 years and 8 months ago. He is unsure which they will recommend but if he chooses my surgeon I think that he most likely will be getting VSG. I'm going to see if he will join this forum for help/support. Anyone have their spouse get the surgery after they did?

If he is ready this is the BEST NEWS! I share with people my husband and I were buffet buddies. I had surgery and he didn't. I am here and he is not You will be a great support to him and my best advice? Make sure he gets it right between the ears before re-arranging his plumbing Let us know what we can do to help.

Thank you so much. He has seen all that I have gone through so I'm hoping that has helped prepare him some but in all reality no one can be 100 percent prepared I guess. BUT I am confident he will do well. Prayers for him for sure. Thanks again!

I have seen other couples post and it's amazing what a great support they are for each other

My wife had her husband (me!) get his surgery about six years after hers and he was certainly ready!

I delayed mostly because I had reasonable success at losing part of my problem by going through the six month insurance thing with her (better results than she had - she really needed the surgery!) Lost about a third of my excess and kept it of in the subsequent years by largely evolving into a WLS maintenance lifestyle with her. The delay was mostly by virtue that the VSG wasn't all that available yet (was not inclined to let the insurance win and self pay again) and the alternatives of the DS and RNY really didn't seem appropriate if I could continue to maintain what I had lost (even though I still had more to go.) The net result was that I really didn't need to change much dietwise post op other than adjust to the lower volume, and that led fairly seamlessly into maintenance once the weight was off. So, being second onto the table really paid off in my case. Hopefully, your husband can similarly benefit from emulating you as you progressed in your venture.

That's wonderful! I know that some wives (maybe husbands too?) push their spouses to get the surgery and I will not do that. Not saying there is anything wrong with that BUT it is ultimately up to him. Just like getting sober..you can't force anyone to do so.

I'm really glad that you are doing well and hope your wife is as well. God bless you both! Thanks for your reply!

You sound like you are doing it exactly right! Support him, but it HAS to be his decision for him to succeed.

Thank you! Definitely. I will do what I can to show him the ropes but up to him to do it.

What kind of surgery also depends on underlying medical issues.
