Cold Brew Coffee
So, this isn't exactly WLS related but I figured maybe some of you would be into this since cold brewing is much less acidic than traditionally hot brewed coffee...
I want to start making my own at home and I know there are lots of ways to do it, but I am having a hard time finding information on what the best coffee to use is, and what ratio's to use.
I'm sure a lot depends on preference and how strong you like it, but is anyone out there making their own cold brew?
Also, is there any specific brand of coffee or type (dark roast? french roast? etc) you find works best?
I am looking into getting a pitcher with the filter in it specifically for steeping (coffee or iced tea) but would really appreciate any insight as to how much coffee to use, where you can buy coarsely ground coffee or do you grind it yourself? --if you grind it yourself, how do you do it and when do you know it's the right grit?
Also, does cold brewing tend to use a lot more coffee beans compared to regular hot brewing?
please anyone who makes their own, chime in with your recipe/guidelines.
Thanks in advance!

Ooh I will have to follow this because I do brew my own cold coffee but I am very unscientific about it! I bought this cool carafe system at Costco - it comes with two pitchers with interchangeable tops and a filter that attached to both tops. So I can have one full of coffee in the fridge while the other one is steeping in the fridge. I use any ground coffee but I prefer dark roast/french roast. I sometimes use Starbucks, sometimes Ethiopian grounds from a local coffee place, and sometimes the cheap coffee from Aldi! They all taste great to me. I fill the filter about 2/3 up and then pour filtered fridge water into the pitcher and leave it for about 24 hours. Like I said, very unscientific!
that carafe system sounds like the perfect thing for a newbie cold brewer like myself LOL...do you remember what the name of it is or the brand? I don't have a costco membership but I could probably look for it online. I think I need something easy and inexpensive to start!

HOWEVER, the Costco one came with two carafes which is perfect for me - that way I can have one steeping and one ready!
awesome thanks so much!!

I love cold brew and like Em, I make my own. I use this guy: OXO Cold Brew Maker.
I use 10 oz of dark roast coffee (I get the giant bags of Peet's Alma de Tierra from Costco) and I want to say six cups of water. The recipe comes with the device.
I stick with dark roast because it tends to be less acidic than medium or light roasts.
