Vacation and no gain

I'll admit I was worried. I tried not to eat a lot of junk. I did have some wine each day, and my go to snack was port wine cheese with crackers. I also had a nice little seafood feast on one of the days. I had a full kitchen so I mainly cooked meat and vegetables for dinners.

I expected a gain, but I'm the same weight as when I left. I wasn't trying to be perfect, and definitely intended on a little splurging.

How have you all handled vacation?

That is awesome, way to go! I am very nervous going on vacation next week for 8 days and I am so afraid I am going to gain. Obviously I paid so much for this trip I want to try some things while on vacation. You gave me hope lol

Yeah it was hard. I tried to avoid restaurants and boardwalk junk (we went to Myrtle Beach, SC) When I went for seafood I literally just ate crab legs. No bread, pasta, or other junk. I think a big saving grace was cooking myself many of the days. I did partake in wine, and a few other things I shouldn't have, but miraculously I didn't gain a single pound! You'll do the same I'm sure (not gain).

That's great!

For my vacations, I do tend to eat outside of my normal way of eating some. I prioritize protein so I never go too overboard, but I definitely have chocolate and the occasional bread. However, my vacations also tend to be super active, so it all balances out.

EDIT: I forgot to add - the hard part isn't any weight changes for me, it's getting off carbs again :P

I hope you loved your vacation! I haven't had a long vacation since surgery. Most I've done is day trips which I packed food for.

Thank you! I really needed it. My job has been super stressful lately, so it was just what the doctor ordered. You should go if you can! Nothing like a week of doing nothing but fun and relaxing stuff.

Yay!

For me, its tricky to find that balance between indulging on occasion, and fear of going completely off the rails.

Im leaving for a conference on Wednesday, followed by a weeks holiday. My plan is to stay protein forward. I won't be completely on point, but I've also worked really hard over the past couple of years to de-emphasize food as an event, in and of itself.

I focus more on experiences etc. but like, food is still a big part of travel...

Very good idea. It was tricky for me as well. I definitely had moments where I didn't make the best choices. I think ultimately my goal was to just not gain. Back on track today! Best of luck to you.

I'm going to weight in. First, congrats on staying protein forward and not gaining on vacation. Staying on plan is almost impossible when not in the same routine, but having more control of your food really helps.

What concerns me is the wine. I know that some post-WLS people drink, but it is definitely a slippery slope and I caution you on it. The alcohol is empty calories that you don't need and even more concerning is the chance of the alcohol becoming habit forming because of addiction transference and the fact that your body processes it differently than before surgery. I know it was vacation and that it is easy to splurge with the intention of returning to plan when you get back, but I urge you to leave the alcohol alone for your weight loss and your health.
