Question for those who eat keto
Thanks again, Cathy! From a fellow carboholic.
I'm looking forward to the time (in about 4 weeks) when I can start eating fresh, green vegetables. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd crave vegetables, but a steady diet of protein shakes has me drooling over salads.

Actually the "Keto" way of eating is extremely kidney pancreas and appendix stressing .Most keto-eaters lose no significant weight at all ( max ten lbs which is NOTHING compared to the significant overweight many are carrying .
I personally suspect that many WLS recipients are simply addicted to FAT. How could ANYONE seriously recommend getting 65 percent of your calories from FAT and why would anyone take such a recommendation seriously unless they too were fast food fat addicts?!!! Cmon REALLY?!
And how much exercise did you " fit in " on that 65% fat diet grrl ?!!
Lots of science backs up the keto diet for improving health and weight loss. HERE is one article with links to many different studies.
As the article states, "These studies are scientific evidence, as good as it gets, that low-carb is much more effective than the low-fat diet that is still being recommended all over the world."

Thanks quutgrrl. You seem to have been very successful following a high carb/low fat diet, and that's great. Some folks do really well following that kind of eating plan.
But many folks don't, and I know for myself that high carb/low fat spells disaster. And I don't just mean weight wise- it also has a negative impact on my mood, my sinuses, and joint discomfort and swelling.
The classic keto diet calls for 65% fat, but many in the keto community don't do that. Many ketoers focus on protein (what we in the wls community call "high protein"- 60-100g per day- is really just "moderate protein"- "high protein" is actually body builder stuff where they eat hundreds of grams of protein a day) and keeping carbs low. Fat is used for satiety.
And a big part of keto is eating as natural as possible, not quite to the same degree as Paleo-type diets, but they are kissing cousins. Fat should come from natural, real food sources, same as our grandparents' generation would have eaten- butter, eggs, cheese, meats. And of course now we have easy access to a range of other fats like olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, and nuts.
Fast food as we all know is garbage- in a pinch you can eat low carb at a drive-thru, but no one would argue fast food is healthy or should be a part of one's daily diet.
I genuinely think it's great that you have a food plan that works for you. But there is so much misinformation out there about the role of fat in our diets, as well as about what eating keto actually means.

Quutgrrl, I really wish you would stop spewing your inane, factless drivel and stick to what it is you think you know. You have NO IDEA what the Ketogenic lifestyle is about! The junk you post as fact never is, and you never have the science to back up your claims. So until and unless you can, then why don't you stop with your annoying pronouncements? You seem to be happiest when you are proclaiming how beautiful and hot you are, and praising the low-fat gods, so do us a favor and stick to what you're best at.
I have studied the SCIENCE of Ketogenic eating and there is absolutely no truth in what you wrote. I have lost 60 pounds eating Keto, and have kept it off for a year, continuing with the Ketogenic way of eating. As for the exercise I "fit in" (no idea where that came from, another of your delusions?), I didn't exercise any more with Keto than I did with my surgeon's recommended low-fat/high protein diet...which is barely at all. I hated exercise before WLS, and I hate it now, and avoid it at all costs.
As a side note, when I decided to go Keto at 5.5 months post-op, my surgeon was behind my decision, and when I saw him at a gathering 14 months post-op, he was excited and pleased, and backed my choice 100%...still does.
For any other new people reading anything "quutgrrl" posts, please know that she has a history of nonsense just like this, and never backs up what she says. She eats super low fat, claims it is the only way, and belittles any other choice. Oh, and she also talks about how low fat eating has given her the "bikini body" she has, while conveniently neglecting to mention that her body is a result of numerous plastic surgery procedures.
I normally ignore what she says, but if she's going to try to say my Keto info is wrong, them's fightin' words in my part of the country!!!
ETA: Oh, and P.S. When I want to LOSE more weight, I increase my fat to 70-75%, and lose like crazy. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
