Order out for pizza ? NOT
I had a pizza craving today to the point that I actually researched online specials and the outrageous 25 DOLLAR!!! Price the decent local pizzeria charges for a med-large pie and delivery .... grrr.
so I thought a bit and made a much healthier tastier and non fattening version. Olive bread ciabatta rolls cut in half and a bit oven toasted while mixing commercial pizza sauce , Parmesan, butter buds , onion and garlic powders and lots of Italian seasoning and chili flakes. Over this sauce I applied a bagful of fat free mozzarella . I'm not only STUFFED from1/3 of the recipe I know I'll wake up skinnier :) and more energized . Love fat free carbs!
Sounds lovely! Eventually I am going to want something pizza-like in my diet. For myself, I'm trying to limit carbs to veggies or fruit. It's still early days for me, and I can't eat much at all, so I'm trying to make every bite a source of protein or micronutrients. I've also seen recipes for pizza crusts made out of cauliflower. I haven't tried it, but it does sound nice.
I'm been a vegetarian for decades, but now I'm going vegan. This is partly because my lactose intolerance got worse after surgery. But also, the only dairy products I liked before surgery were cheese and ice cream. While cheese provides some nutrition, ice cream is definitely something I don't need. Hey vegans: what do you put on a pizza in place of cheese? Ideally, I'm looking for something that will provide a bit of creamy/chewy texture.
I ran across this article recently about vegan cheese. (NOTE: I am NOT vegan or vegetarian so cannot endorse anything in the article.)

I've been making a faux-pizza - 1 oz sliced motz, topppes with one slice pepperoni (optional) sprinkled with crushed red pepper and Italian seasoning; put on parchment paper lined baking sheet, bake for 3-5 minutes. One or two makes a meal and satisfies my pizza Jones. Sorry, wombat, I can't help on the vegan cheese options - good luck finding some!

I have read that a large mushroom can be used as a "crust" as well because of how mild its flavor is. I haven't had it, but a friend has made them and says they are pretty decent. Can't tell you're eating a mushroom crust lol.

I was excited about the Trader Joe's cauliflour crusts too....until I saw the ingredients and carb count.
I buy from Califlower Foods now...I order them by mail and they work out to be about $5 per crust. And they are SO GOOD!
