Trying to get back on track? What is your magic #

I personally had a regain and often see members posting here about theirs. We see the scale going up and up and we decide this is it! Enough is enough and we are going to get back on track. By the end of the day, we are eating all the bad carbs again. Tomorrow we tell ourselves and blow it again. OMG, here we go again back on that merry go round.

I have to honestly tell you, it takes several tries and fails before it clicks. It did for me, it took me almost a year but it finally did. Maybe the stars have to be aligned right or something I don't know. But once it did, it happened.

Don't give up, keep trying. They say it takes 30 days to break a habit. For those of you that lost your regain, how many tries did it take you? My magic number was 6 and a year time frame. I think it will help members see it can be done and don't give up if it doesn't happen the first time, second time, third time.....

I have battled several regains over the years, usually 10-20lbs. The current one had taken me to my highest weight since surgery and I was so unhappy and feeling very unhealthy. I have a ton of excuses because, of course, it had nothing to do with eating.

I am very much an all or nothing person, so I can't wishy washy my diet. I made a plan, when and how I was going to do it and here I am, 7 months later and feeling very pleased with myself.

I wish I could be one of those "100lbs lost forever" people, you know, the honeymooners who are NEVER going to gain more than 2lbs without doing something about it. That would be awesome I must have been absent the day that surgery was performed.

Thanks Kim for sharing! I was one of those "200 pounds gone forever" people and I ended up eating my words and 70 pounds of regain. Be careful what you type I am not sure why it took me several tries, I think as you said I was working through multiple issues!

I don't know if I should really post here because this is my first regain and my first time trying to lose it but I knew I was not going to let myself get to 200 lbs ever again. I hit 198 and said that's it and I have been doing everything I can to get back to where I was. Started therapy, rejoined OH, went back to planning and tracking all meals, exercise every single day for 30 min whether its walking or whatever. I would love to say this is it and I will never regain again but who can really say that? I just know that this time around I will be doing everything I possibly can to stick with it. I let pregnancy and stress and lack of self-confidence keep me from attaining my goal. I'm only on Day 31 of my regain-loss journey but I will say its getting easier and losing 10 lbs and eating better has made me feel better than I have in a year. I will say I admire you and that you have regained and lost because it is def so much harder than it was after surgery.

Height = 5'2 Age = 37 Surgery Date = August 13, 2012 HW = 231lbs LW = 131lbs

Regain SW = 209.6 CW = 191.2 Goal Weight = 157.6 lbs

The only way you will see results is if you stay consistent!

Of course you can post it here! I really thought I had it licked...after all if I was going to regain I would have done so. I had surgery in 2004 and it was 2016 I gained. I had lost my husband of 39 years and it just put me in what I call my rabbit hole. So I think we both let life get in the way and we got away from the basics. The word basics seems so simple for such a difficult complex issue but it's true. As you said once we got back to the basics/rules it works. To be honest with you I am older cough, cough and with 12 years behind me I was amazed how well my tool worked for me. Don't you hate it when those sayings are correct. If you work the tool, the tool works for you.

Take it one day at a time and if you need to talk, support or vent give me a shout. I am here for you

Do you know what I like about OH?

Not only do I find kindred spirits here who keep me amazed, awed, troubled, informed and encouraged, but it is here- through reading other's experiences (good, bad, hopeful and questioning) that shatter some of my rock hard assumptions and supposed truths regarding this WLS "path" and make me think of the many issues that need to be sifted through.

So, yah, two things occur to me- What, really, counts as "trying"? For me, in regards to my weight regain/regain reloss there's the "Trying is lying" when I don't really mean it, or "Trying, but just for today" as in putting in the effort like it is a day's work, but the weekend is coming and that weekend goes on for forever. Sometimes my trying is "I just want to relieve enough of the misery, shame, and self rebuke to diminish- that is get enough of the WLmonkey to get off my back so that I can resume doing what I really want to do- which is eat when, what, however I want to.

Effective trying happened for me when the pain that went with the regain became unbearable and I was no longer willing to pay the price it took (physically, mentally, and spiritually) to get the pitiable, short lived benefit that food gave me. I believe that people do not stop doing something that they think- one way or the other- is ok to do. Somehow, I made horrible choices because I made it ok to do so. Over and over, tossing out many a "I'm trying" into the mix while fully intending (consciously or not) to return to behaviors that I some how made ok.

So, how many times did I try before things clicked? My answer is the same as if someone asked me, "How many times did it take you to find your lost glasses?" Why, as many times as it took to find them.

To those of us who have/are dealing with regain...yes! Keep trying. There is no movement can happen without that first step. Just remember to be clear in your heart what you really mean by the word trying. The tool does not break, it is our brains that somehow, sometimes misfire. The car can drive, but can the driver take that working car to its destination?

Regain of 125# Loss of 130# ( 15 months).

 TOTAL POUNDS LOST- 200 (110 pounds lost before surgery, 90 pounds lost Post Op.diabetes in remission-blood pressure normal-cholesterol and triglyceride levels normal!  BMI from 55.6  supermorbidly obese to 23.6  normal!!!!
