Fed up with eating

Super helpful advice, thank you. I'd been thinking about looking into some paleo recipes as options but I think that right now, these items aren't the best choice for me....especially as I'm still dealing with a resurgence of cravings after getting off my plan for a little while. I'm pre surgery and have a ways to go still.

Ahh, okay, you're welcome! If I were to experiment, I'd go low carb or keto over paleo. Paleo allows natural sugars which doesn't sound bad, but after surgery all types of sugar ( sugar, coconut sugar, honey, agave..etc ) are off the table, or are according to my post op plan. ( I'm allowed sugar subs within reason. )

I can certainly understand trying to get cravings to go away. It's always hard, especially after surgery, to get back on plan if you've gotten off.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

She's been in maintenance for five years -- at her goal weight with a normal BMI.

I wouldn't add these things if you are still in the losing phase or if you are just learning maintenance. It's dangerous at those points.

I have horrible constipation problems now, which is why I've been trying to increase my fiber from what I was getting, which was practically nothing. Though I'm waiting to see if it's helping. If not, I will have to turn to my GP since I can't keep things going alone and am not sure if I should do more fiber, less protein, or if there's something I can take safely all the time. I've been doing Miralax 3-4 days a week, but it only sort of helps.

There is a fiber called Citrucel that you take as tablets or mix with water. It is the only supplement that does not cause gas and you can take it every day.

For what it's worth, I had a convo on this topic with my nutritionist about two weeks ago. She recommended adding a bit of fruit (kiwi, cantaloupe, berries, apple) for their help in moving things along. I said no, because I'm still in maximize weight loss mode at only 4 months out, so her alternative was Benefiber in one of my daily water bottles.

For me, fiber WORSENS the problem.

I am 4.5 years out -- my worst stage of constipation was at 18 to 24 months.

FAT is what has cured this issue for me. Adding more fat to my diet finally got me off of miralax AND stool softeners (Colace) every day.

Ugh I surely hope all my extra fiber has not worsened anything because I am at my wits end at this point. More fat in my diet in general couldn't hurt whether it clears the constipation, or not. Once I am out of my yogurt I will look into a higher fat greek.

One of my meals of the day is 1/2 cup full fat plain greek yogurt with splenda and 3TB of Kellogg's all bran buds. Fat + fiber is a good thing.

This is my "dessert" meal of the day. The other meals are meat or eggs.

I had to turn to my GP as well when it came to constipation. She uses and recommends to all of her patients with this problem "Natural Calm". It has been a life saver. It comes in unflavored(I still taste a little bit of something) and raspberry lemonade. You can find it in any health food section or nutrition isle in your grocery store, or online. I started with a 1/2 tsp then worked up to 2 tsp in one of my water bottles every day. Just a suggestion, it's safe to take every day if Miralax doesn't work well for you. Good luck Mersh, this part was hard for me too.
