so basically what you're saying is that it's not proven to help, but it probably can't hurt, and it might have other beneficial factors. LOL... sounds like it's something I'd need to continually use on a regular basis for any possible benefit though.

It can help but only if you take the real stuff and is not too old and that you can absorb. Any supplements you take - need to have some black pepper in it.

It is a rather warming herb, so watch for any overheating. Specially at night.

I truly miss NSAIDS. For me it's been 17 years since I had any.

It's good to have a game plan with your doctor. I just started some Physical therapy for hip pain and conditioning/balance. For acute pain my doc knows no NSAIDS.

Ice and heat help. Tylenol can help. I limit mine because I'm super nice to my liver.

The thing that might help the most is continuing and sustained weight loss.

I did talk to my doctor and I know that regular exercise and weight loss will help in the long run. It's hard during this part though, when the tylenol isn't doing much and I physically cannot exercise when it flares up due to the pain...I am working on it though. Hoping when I get closer to goal it won't bother me as frequently.
I did go through a course of physical therapy which did not help at all but granted, I was 300 lbs at the time.
thanks!

For me - I had to find a good chiropractor to help my body find its own balance.

I started to have an SI joints issues when I was in car accident. Someone rear ended me, that caused my pelvic rotation against my spine. ,1.5 years later I still try to have that align properly.

I tried Turmeric capsules for muscle soreness when I first started working out and never really saw any difference. I have experience with chronic back pain including sciatica. It's a lot better with the weight I've lost, but I still see my chiropractor once a month. I've just done too much damage to my back over the years of being super morbidly obese for it to be 100%.

What helps me the most is ice and chiropractic adjustments. If your pain is very bad, you might need to go the full steroid route either via oral medication or injection. This would be a thing to talk to your medical practitioner about.

Also, be advised that a lot of people who have chronic back pain experience more flare-ups as they lose weight. This is because your muscles are adjusting to all sorts of new things--new posture, new gait, general increased activity--and it might be good to get a referral for physical therapy to work on core strength.

Good luck and I hope you get a decrease in pain. Crawling to the bathroom is no fun!

I am thinking about scheduling an appt with the back doc again...I was wondering about steroids actually since I know we can't take NSAIDs and was under the impression that steroids do the same thing with the thinning of blood/stomach lining...maybe it's different if they are in epidurral injection form?

I have not seen a chiropractor mostly because I work for an orthopedic doctor's group and the spine docs are more easily accessible and not usually keen to refer to chiro's.
Ice doesn't do much for me besides make me cold I've discovered lol.
thanks!

I try to get SI joints injections (my doc does it 2 at each side. They really help me.

Plus - there is a SI joints belt that really helped me when I walk.

I have been studying herbs as medicine for 20 + years. Learning as I go.

If you ask any real hard core herbalist- they would tell you that no herbs is Anti-inflamatory. They can mitigate inflammation, help with blood circulation to deal with inflammation, but they don't work the same way as "chemical" pills do.

Turmeric can help with some inflammation, or imbalances. But just taking a tsp of turmeric is not going to work as NSAIDs work.

Turmeric is warming herb, and it may help with some inflammation. But it is difficult to absorb, and it is more of her that needs to be taken long term, together with other supplements.

A good naturopathic doc or herbalist is not going to treat "condition". They will treat a person.

A lot of hype is around turmeric. I personally use it in combination with other herbs/supplements. Plus I cook with it. That is the best way to get it.

Ginger, curry, turmeric, etc can help in overall health.

Trying to discover why you deal with the SI joints inflammation may be the key. Is it food allergies- intolerances? Or other stuff you eat - take? Or lack of muscles support in this area?

Try to stay away from any grains. Once in a while I really want a small sandwich. But ...if - when I eat it I know I most likely would wake up with swollen ankles the next day. Ankles and feet pain. It is part of my reality. I know I should not eat bread...but some days I just act "stupid" and have it anyway.

If anything- don't just trust any cheap turmeric supplement. Use more complex herbal therapy and get brands that is known for its quality i.e. Gaia Herb company.

thanks- definitely something to think about as far as the things that may be causing it...
I have had it for at least 10 years, so I'm sure my weight is a big factor, but I have noticed my flare-ups seem related to my menstrual cycle too so that may be part of it.
I do have endometriosis and I am sure that doesn't help, and maybe getting the Mirena IUD I am scheduled for tomorrow will help.
I think I will wait and see how I feel after the IUD for a couple months and maybe if it is still not getting better, I will schedule another appt with the spine doc.
