Turmeric for inflammation

I have been looking for alternative solutions to NSAIDS for inflammation. I have chronic Sacroiliitis that flares up pretty badly a few days a month. I was hoping weight loss would help it but I am only 3 1/2 months post op and still have a lot to lose.
I used to take ibuprofen or Rx Diclofenac for it but since I can no longer take Nsaids, I was wondering if anyone has tried Turmeric (or another alternative?) and if so, what dosage, and is it something you take daily or just when you have pain? thanks in advance for any advice!

Tumeric is one of the best natural anti-inflammatories you can get.

Here is a good article about it: Tumeric for Humans

But be sure to run it by your doctor first. I hope you find relief!

False. Turmeric is not an effective anti-inflammatory agent-- there is no science to prove that it is effective in humans.

From the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine:

"There is little reliable evidence to support the use of turmeric for any health condition because few clinical trials have been conducted.

Preliminary findings from animal and other laboratory studies suggest that a chemical found in turmeric--called curcumin--may have anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant properties, but these findings have not been confirmed in people." (source)

Scientists have recently determined that the positive results in older studies weren't because turmeric is effective; rather, it tends to cause false positive results in various tests. (source)

Anecdotal evidence is lovely, but it provides ZERO basis for medical recommendations.

I feel happy when I wear stripey socks. Does that mean others should wear stripey socks when they deal with depression, rather than taking medication?

I can never find the match to the stripey sock.

I have a serious collection of stripey knee socks for roller derby. I've taken to pinning matching socks together with a big diaper pin before they go in the wash. The Laundry Gnomes haven't spirited away any socks yet!!

We live in a different laundry world.

I just love roller derby. The outfits are art.

TessieLoo. Remember your question regarding why we sometimes quote another member's post in our reply to them? This right here is why:

"TessieLoo has deleted this message."

Whatever you posted in response to Julie is now gone and the flow of the conversation has been broken. In addition posters who delete and do it often enough may cause others here to question their integrity among other things. I'm not accusing you of being at that point, but it's something to be aware of.

Luckily it went to my inbox before Tessie deleted her message (and blocked me).
