Arrggghhhh! I hate the pre-op diet.

Just started my two-week pre-op diet today. I don't know how I'll be able to concentrate at work with so few calories! Yes, I know I'll be eating less for a while after surgery, but I'll be on medical leave then.

I had cut my diet soda consumption to one per week, in anticipation of the fact that I'll need to give them up after surgery. But I think I'll need plenty of diet coke to get through the next two weeks.

First 3 days are the hardest- you'll turn a corner at day 4. Stick with it- it's worth it.

You should quit the Diet Coke now too. Suck it up and do it. This isn't anything compared to the restraint that is going to be required soon.

Not to be mean at all, but suck it up and tough it out. We've all been through it. If you want to be successful, you'll be one of the ones who toughs it out instead of caving in to your baser desires.

I gave up soda a year before surgery. I used sparkling unsweetened water to do it. Haven't had soda in over a year and 8-9 months since the water...I don't miss it. It's easier to give it up now than wait. You'll be better off doing it now. Like mentioned above we've all been through this phase of the process. Just do it!

I used to be a Pepsi addict myself. Haven't had any soda since surgery in Sept 2010. All I drink is water, coffee, and occasionally milk. This is just the first step of many yet to go. It's a lifelong journey, which is why commitment to changing our attitude towards food is so essential. You can do it.

It is horrible and it will completely screw with your head. Just keep at it! It will really kickstart your weightloss. Chew sugar free gum and drink a ton of water. Remember, many surgeons prescribe this diet due to its liver shrinking capabilities, to make maneuvering the laparoscope easier. Liver shrinkage can decrease the complication risk. You've got this!!!

Hi! Hang in there. For many of us the preop diet is the hardest part of the whole process.

Wasn't going to comment on the DC but I will say this. If you have to make a choice between Diet Coke and eating off plan (PRE-op), do what you have to do. I drank Diet Coke right up until my surgery date. There is no way I'd have stuck to the liquid diet if one of the liquids wasn't DC.

Obviously if your surgeon says no soda during your liquid diet, do as your told.

Good luck, you'll get through it and you'll be postop sooner than you can imagine. Welcome to OH =)

Thank you! I am allowed diet soda for the pre-op diet. And since I see it as a treat, it's making it easier for me to stick to the diet. I do plan to stick to the diet religiously.
