Weight Gain
Hello Family! I been off this site for so many years! I'm back looking for a little support?! I had my surgery 4/2007 I have gain 50 lbs and due to have a (TORe)trans-oral endoscopic suturing (tore) for dilated gj anastomosis. Has anyone had this done yet and if so please tell me what you think and your results! Thank you?
There are a few names for this procedure, such as StomaphyX and the ROSE procedure. Search for those terms and you'll get more hits.
We don't see many people with a lot of success though.

Sorry you are dealing with this. It sounds like you really stretched your stoma. There isn't a huge success rate for these procedures but maybe you'll be the one who runs with it. Fortunately they seem to be designing pouches now in ways that minimize the chances of having this happen but that doesn't help you I know.
The whole concept of stretching stuff out like that sounds so discouraging. Because it takes the same amount of calories to lose/maintain your weight whether your stoma is stretched or not. It takes incredible discipline to not eat over that calorie limit when you never feel full.
Good luck, maybe you can check back in and let us know how it goes?

If you're worried, there's no harm in seeking a second opinion from another doctor!

I agree with Julie. I would get a second opinion from another surgeon. The sad reality is that some surgeons are more concerned with getting paid for another procedure than they are with whether the procedure will really help the patient (and, as already mentioned, none of these procedures have good track records). I would also be certain that your insurance will cover the procedure. Many do not since they frequently don't work long term.
I would also ask if there are any potential drawbacks to having this particular procedure done (they all seem to be slightly different)... if you could end up in a worse situation than you are in now.
