BC wait times
Hello lovely people. I'm new here, I did some googling on wait times for BC ( Richmond in particular) and didn't find anything current, mostly stuff from 2015. I was referred feb 23-2016 (no medical issues) and have not heard anything yet. Can I get your input?
1) When was your referral date?
2) was it Richmond or the island?
3) how long until your consultation?
4) from consultation how long until surgery?
5) did you have any medical issues prior to surgery?
6) any advise so I can be better prepared and move things along faster once I get the consultation?
TIA
I've heard times in BC are really long but I would think you should of heard something by now, I might follow up to make sure the referral went through, also if you have no documented medical issues depending on your BMI it might put you at the bottom of the list.

I recommend posting on the Featured Forum: Bariatric Surgery in Canada (aka Ontario Forum). You will get lots of great info there from many wonderful OH members!
I was referred in June 2013 and didn't hear back from Richmond until Oct 2014 (with surgery in March 2015). Now, there is even more demand and the wait times are much longer, easily up to 3 years.
If you are anxious and ready/willing to do the work, look into getting a referral from your GP to the Medical Weight Management program in Coquitlam. Once you've entered their program, they will assess your readiness for surgery and, from people I've talked to, they can expedite surgery in Richmond.
Be patient. It's worth waiting for! Just use your time wisely, learn all you can and get your head on straight. That'll serve you well post-op, once you get there.
