Won't Stop losing
I am very sorry that you are going through this. I hope you are able to get some answers from your tests.
I found an article on monitoring post bariatric surgery nutritional deficiencies.
It mentions thiamine deficiency and says the best test for this is "whole-blood thiamine or the erythrocyte transketolase, and not just serum thiamine."
If you have had your thiamine tested in the past, it might be worth checking to see what kind test they ran.
Just to let everyone know. I am religious about taking my vitamins, calcium citrate (I also take D3 and EXTRA Thiamin) each year I give up 17 tubes of blood for all my vitamin counts. My vitamin counts are spot on perfects, including my B12 which I inject monthly. (Last time the vit B12 count was 985) The things that ALWAYS get flagged on my labs are AST/ALT/SGOT (No I do not drink ANY alcohol) I have NO hepatitis and I have had 3 liver biopsies all are normal. There is NO fatty liver, no cirrhosis and no plaques. In fact when they took my gallbladder out it was turning necrotic and I only had nausea and elevated labs, no pain.
I eat protein all the time often baby food meat like turkey/chicken/roast beef and ham. I have 3 autoimmune diseases (Even pre surgery) On my current lab work blood Ammonia levels are flagged as twice as normal, White Cell Blood Count is flagged as "Alert Low" at 2.9
I had my very first grand mal (Clonic tonic) seizure 3 years post RNY. I was told it lasted 20 minutes and then another 20 minutes before I became alert and oriented.
I am on at least 8 meds for seizures and confusion (I need a walker or I walk into walls) many times I become confused or don't know where I am. I am to be in hospital for several days were I guess they are going to do a multiple amount of tests.
Remember, RNY is for life. I do not regret having the procedure because I would have been dead already.
Just remember to know some regain, some have problems and sadly I know of two people since my time here in 2010 who have passed away due to complications. To "Newbies" and old timers/veterans alike I wish you all the best!
Warmly,
Jackie
