Thoughts on frozen, but cooked meat from companies like Tyson?

If the raw chicken is 130 cal/4oz, it's 32.5 cal/oz.
For the frozen stuff, it's 90 cal/3oz, which is 30 cal/oz.
Seems close enough for me :)

I'm going to try these. Sounds like a handy thing to have in the freezer!

If you do the math
4cal per gram for protein x 21 = 84
4cal per gram for carbs x 1 = 4
9 cal per gram for fat x .5 = 4.5
so just by math it comes to 92.5. So 90 sounds right.

As a math teacher, let me address the prot/cal issue - ie can the label be accurate?
Protein and carbohydrates both contain 4 calories per gram, while fat provides 9 calories per gram.
So, based on the label - 84 gm serving
fat: 9 *0.5=4.5 carb: 4*1=4 prot:21*4=84
Add them up: 4.5+4+84=95 cal (5 cal is rounding error). So that is possibly accurate, but wait a minute, what about the total weight - those total 84 grams (equivalent of a 3 oz serving - about 28 gms/ounce.)
Out of the 84 grams (real food=fat(0.5)+carb(1gm)+prot(21g)=that is 23gms of macro nutrients in a 84gm serving. So, what the heck is the other 61 gms made from?? 84-23=61 gms. Probably a lot of water, some preservatives, sodium and "natural flavorings).
I'm not knocking these products - I have some in my freezer (and a few cans of tunafish in the cupboard for when I didnot get to the store). But, you raise a good question when 75% of the portion is neither fat, carb nor prot, what are you really eating.Good Housekeeping has a good write up on raw chicken - a little more fat (maybe Tyson cooks the fat off) and a little less carb (1gm of seasonings etc sounds about right - a gm is 1/28 of an ounce.)

My thoughts exactly. When I cook up a few pounds of chicken breast, I am surprised at how much it ends up being.
