High cholesterol?

That does seem strange. Did you fast beforehand? You may want to try fish oil to increase your good cholesterol. Good cholesterol has a reciprocal effect on bad cholesterol. As one increases the other decreases.

I did not, she did not tell me to so I didn't consider it. She placed me on lipitor for the time being and wants to recheck me in 6 months. I have been taking fish oil though, the omega-red I think it's called, but probably not long enough for an effect on my levels.

Lipid profiles are always suppose to be done while fasting. This may be the cause of your high number. You should request a recheck right away.

Yes you should always fast before cholesterol blood work. Preferably at least 10 hours.

I do not typically use different supplements but mine was hogh also and I started Berberine and it dropped 28 points in one month. I also started eating less meat and more fish so ai am not sure what helped tge most. Here is the brand I use https://thrivemarket.com/p/solaray-berberine-root-extract-advanced-formula?utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&utm_medium=pla&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Shopping_Top_SKUs&utm_content=076280206777&utm_term=google-pla_na&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-NSzlpTP2gIVEKrsCh1LKwQOEAYYAiABEgKqwfD_BwE

Mine also went up pretty drastically between 6 & 12 months post-op. I think my LDL went from 130 to 180. They also wanted to put me on Statins but I deflected for another 6 months because of everything I've heard about rapid WL. Also, my 6 month test was fasting and my 12 month test was not. Supposedly, that does not make a difference but I've always had a much more elevated result when I'm not fasting.

I will have mine checked again in July but I added avocado, olives, and I'm taking fish oil daily now. Also; Donna mentioned to me that there is a test they can run to figure out what type of cholesterol it is. Big and fluffy = fine, small and hard = bad. You can use that test to determine if the statin is warranted.

I actually just had my cholesterol retaken at my cardiologists yesterday and had fasted for it. They did not need a tube of blood work like my doctor and instead had some sort of magical finger ***** and tiny tube thing they used. It was elevated still. I did mention things I had heard about weight loss surgery and how it raised cholesterol temporarily, he said he had heard that as well (him and my surgeon work together so he's not ignorant to some WLS changes) but was concerned at just how big the difference was and after reviewing family history said it was likely genetic. I have Lipitor, I hate the thought of taking it in case it actually is temporary, but then if it's not temporary and I don't take it, it may be worse in 6 months. So many things to think about and none of them make me happy :(
