My Heart is Breaking

We had to send our beloved Maximus across the bridge today.
We rescued him 3 1/2 years ago...and he was the missing piece that we didn't even know we were missing.
Right after he got the sedation shot, he pulled himself up and got right into my face, looked into my eyes, and I will always believe he was saying "Goodbye" and "Thank You".
He passed in daddy's arms. He was a good boy. Such a good boy.
I'm soothing myself with everything edible or drinkable I can find. I am allowing myself to self-soothe in any way I need to this weekend.
Run Free Max. We will love you forever and beyond.
Very heartbreaking. So sorry for your loss. Animals bring so much joy to our homes but their time with us is short. We can only find solace in that we provided a loving home for them while they were here. Hoping your days get brighter soon.
I'm so sorry you lost this beloved family member. My heart goes out to you
IMO self-soothing via comfort foods for a limited time isn't terrible as long as it doesn't continue beyond a couple of days and become a habit. If you are anything like me your intestines are going to rebel early on and that would be good time to stop and go back to your usual eating routine.

So sorry to hear of your loss, but it's important that you adopted him and gave him 3-1/2 years of loving life. As a fellow owner of so called "heart break" breeds, you just know that they'll love you with all their heart for the time you have them.

He was such a good, good boy. So gentle and loving...and grateful. He was grateful every day that he was our lap dog. We started as a foster...to teach him how to go on walks, be around other dogs without freaking...go on car rides, get groomed. He spent the first 4 1/2 years of his life living outside in a 12x12 kennel and being fed **** food once a day. The last 3 1/2 years of his life, he was a King.
He had lymphoma. We tried the chemo route, and I'll never do it again. Never.
Run free Max. We'll be together again when it's my time. And then we'll do all those road trips we wanted to do.
