Yeah my doctor asked "what happens when you take NSAIDs?" To put in for the "reaction" and I just said ulcers.

A woman I know who had VSG a couple years before me eats everything she wants. She immediately goes and throws it up because she eats and makes herself sick. That seems perfectly OK with her and I can't wrap my brain around it. She also doesn't drink anything but Coke.

One thing, I have trouble with the nothing to drink 30 minutes before, or after a meal. I don't drink a ton, but do take little sips through a meal while out. Most food out is saltier than what I prepare at home and it really, really bothers me. Luckily eating out isn't a frequent thing. I prefer to make my food and take it out with me to eat if I'm going to be gone all day.

I only hold drinking after I eat. Before doesn't make sense medically. Also I would never get enough fluid in.

The not drinking with meals is hard. I'm not sure the 30 minute "before" rule is really necessary. You might ask your surgeon. Many of us drink right up to mealtimes but adhere to the 30 minute "after" guideline.

As for the sips, I do it too when it's needed.* There is a difference between a couple of tiny sips and a whole glass of milk (to use Deb's example).

*newbies note I am close to 10 years out.

I'm still a newbie but my RD agrees with you -- she said the 30 minute before rule should be temporary during the healing period since there's just not a lot of room but once that's done I can switch to just the 30 minutes after.

That woman has an eating disorder. Don't follow her lead.

I also drink right up to a meal but adhere to the 30 minutes after.

Gee when I did that as a teenager (though not nearly as much food) I was anorexic, probably one of the biggest issues I had with dieting, I was alway afraid of going back there, (never thin enough, god I'm still huge, can't i disapperar, at 15-16 BMI) recovered and was good for a number of years then starting heading in the other direction.

She's kept off at least 100 pounds of the 150 she lost. She keeps trying like we all do.
