What do you stock up on at the grocery store?
on 3/26/18 9:08 am
My menu never changes really. I currently have 2 menu variations. One is a work day menu, and the other is for days off. Only differences is if I throw in a protein bar because I won't be home and don't want to eat out.
Eggs, Canadian bacon, lots of cottage cheese, tuna fish and Greek yogurt. Those are the staples. I don't use protein drinks anymore.

Now that I sous vide, I stock up on cook sous viding meat when I'm at the store if there's a good sale. Yum.
Aside from that, the only really consistent thing on my grocery list is the unsweetened original almond milk I use every morning for my protein shakes. Everything else about my diet is very varied.

I keep a ( too? ) well stocked kitchen. I make most things from scratch, and keep way probably too much stuff around. Since I'm a stay at home mom and cook for my family every night, I try to keep things interesting.
On hand always: Eggs, greek yogurt-both flavored and plain homemade, milk, cream cheese, heavy whipping cream, half and half, butter, about 7 kinds of cheeses, peanuts, cashews, almonds, lunch meat (chicken),pepperoni, tuna pouches, chicken thighs, ground beef, pork tenderloin, chuck roast, mushrooms, tomato sauce and paste, no salt added chicken and beef stocks, a plethora of spices and herbs, three different cooking oils, a variety of vinegars, wines, and liquors, Splenda, liquid sucralose drops for coffee and tea, erythritol, stevia, brown sugar sub called Sukrin Gold, no sugar added peanut butter and NSA powdered peanut butter, almond and coconut flour, coconut butter, culinary coconut milk, soy sauce and other condiments..I'm LOVING Mac's Pork Cracklin's right now; especially the chorizo flavor. ( Oh, which reminds me...I keep chorizo in the freezer at all times. )
I don't eat bacon very much anymore, but I keep it on hand in case I want to use some in other dishes....or make bacon jam. Yum.
I think I need a bigger kitchen!
Edited because typos...as usual.

I live alone and cook for one, so I'm lazy and rarely cook for myself. Therefore, I tend to buy a lot of already prepared things and easy, convenient foods. I also eat the same thing every day (including weekends usually) for breakfast and lunch, and just mix it up at dinner.
The things I buy nearly every shopping trip are:
Bacon, Jack Links Bacon Jerky, eggs, Dannon L&F Toasted Marshmallow or Vanilla yogurt, natural (peanuts only) crunch peanut butter, coffee, half and half, heavy whipping cream, Xylitol, cheddar/mozzarella swirl cheese sticks, turkey sausage snack sticks, smoked pulled pork from the local smokehouse, sliced cheddar or provolone, mozzarella, zucchini, cauliflower rice, chopped broccoli, ranch dressing, sour cream, and Wholly Guacamole or Wholly Avocado.
Keto On!! lol
FYI, I'm sleeved and 3 years, 7 months post-op. I've lost over 100 pounds and have kept it all off with very little fluctuation on the scales since reaching this weight.
My weekly or biweekly purchases (I guess that's the best way to define "what I stock up on at the grocery store") include:
FRUITS:
Blueberries (fresh when I can get them, but frozen if fresh is out of range)
Strawberries
Mangoes
Apples (I like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Gala)
Bosc pears (I eat these with blue cheese -- wowzah!)
VEGETABLES:
Carrots
Avocadoes
Colored peppers (usually sweet minis)
Onions (I like to caramelize them)
Organic, washed spring greens (a mixture of lettuces, kale, parsley, radicchio and other greens) -- I try to eat a tub of this every week
Small tomatoes of all colors (red, yellow, orange, green)
Zucchini squash
MEATS, ETC.
A friend raises chickens and gives me a dozen eggs every few weeks
Pork loin roast
Turkey deli meat
Morningstar Spicy Beef Veggie Burgers
Salmon (I love salmon!)
Skinless, boneless chicken breasts
FROZEN ENTREES
Healthy Choice Korean-Inspired Power Bowls (I'm addicted!)
Healthy Choice Cuban-Inspired Power Bowls (love this with an avocado)
DAIRY
Sharp cheddar cheese
Blue cheese
Gouda cheese
Skim milk
Light sour cream
Greek vanilla yogurt
Note: Every time I eat cheese I weigh the cheese. If I didn't do so I'd wind up ODing on cheese or eating far more calories than I can afford to eat at my current weight.
BREADS, CARB TREATS
Sara Lee whole grain bread
Nonni's salted caramel biscotti (most days I have one with afternoon coffee)
OTHER
Coffee
Chardonnay (I have a single 5-ounce pour most evenings)
Maxwell House Fat Free Swiss Mocha (with my second cup of morning coffee)
Various salad dressings, mostly fat-free or reduced fat
Green tea and other non-caffeine teas
Bottled water
Spices, herbs, sea salt, peppercorns
Oils - mostly olive, a little butter,
I'm sure I've forgotten some other things I buy and eat frequently; if I think of them later, I'll add another post.
Needless to say, there's a whole bunch of stuff I simply do not bring home because it's just too damned tempting. If I want something sugary (and if it's been a long time since I've had some dessert) I usually get it at a restaurant or I buy a single piece to bring home. But the weird truth is, I just can't eat a monster serving of dessert (like carrot cake) anymore without feeling sick. I guess my WLS lifestyle is finally catching up with me. ;)

P.S. I should add that I'm not a low-carb eater. I aim for 8 servings of veggies and fruits daily, and I usually hit that goal (I actually had 10 V/F servings 2 days last week). However, I almost alway**** 95-105 grams of protein daily, too. I'm also a big fan of whole grains. What I minimize are highly processed, low-fiber, sugary foods that many call "slider/slurry foods." Yes, I do treat myself on vacations and on special occasions. But most days and most weeks the list of foods above are the kinds of things I eat. And it's all delicious! And I feel great. :)
