Obesity Help Tips: How to Block Trolls
I'm glad you posted this Gwen. Everyone should be aware that they have this option and how to execute it.
Kim makes sense too. If you do block people (I don't but it's obviously just a personal preference) it would be a good idea to review your "block" list every few weeks or so. Things look a bit different in the heat of the moment so a calm once over can be very beneficial.
Case in point: (not telling any secrets - she has told this story herself). One member here, who no longer posts much, inadvertently set off a kerfuffle when she was a brand new post op. People weren't kind to her in a thread she started and she felt they were ganging up on her. She was also in the middle of her the hormone dumping that happens post op and was very emotional. She blocked every person in that thread *****sponded to her in a negative manner. And then she blocked some more for good measure. When all was said and done she had blocked about 60 people.
That's a lot of blocked input.
It took a bit but when she was feeling stronger she went back and unblocked most of them. Realizing she was cutting herself off from a lot of good information, she reassessed and moved on. To me that seems a reasonable use of the block button. (not the 60 people part; the eventual review of the block list).
Bottom line: do what you need to do to make your experience here enjoyable but be cognizant of the fact that irritating people can give really good input.
Yes, totally - always a good idea to review your block list.
I definitely see blocking trolls to be in a different category than blocking irritating people, though. If I blocked everyone who had ever irritated me, I don't think there'd be many people left ;) And I'm sure the same is true in reverse!

Thanks for posting this.
I just used it for the first time. I haven't been here long, but I've been here long enough to know that I have no desire to engage with that person.
I've been here for several years, but have never blocked anyone until now.
I just did. And am delighted to realize that by blocking her I no longer can see the threads she starts and am not distracted by her trolling and the responsive troll-feeding that goes on in those threads.
I love it! ;)

Yes, I've noticed that it doesn't work for all browsers. Are you using Firefox by any chance?
