Hair loss

Hello everyone,

I guess what I am looking for in this post is confirmation more than advice. I am 3.5 months post surgery and I have noticed in the last couple weeks that my hair is coming out in little clumps when I shower. Is this just an after effect of the anesthesia or do I now have something else to worry about? Have you experienced the same?

Thanks!

Very normal. Usually happens around 3 mnths out. They are not exactly sure what causes it, but making sure you're drinking 64oz water, getting your protein, and taking your vitamins is suppose to help somewhat. Good news is it grows back.

Hi, I am 6 months out and yes around month 4, I noticed more and more of my loose hair on everything. On the soap, shower floor, my face. As others have posted here it is an expected occurrence and is temporary. Called Telogen effulvian (spelling?). The top of my head the hair is very thin. I had very fine hair to begin with so the hair loss is very apparent for me. I am using the Topix powder and making quite the side part with my already short hair. I hope mine will grow back soon. I have not tried Rogaine yet. Not sure I can keep the commitment it requires to apply daily. Everyone at the weight management center I attend says to keep taking my vitamins and it will eventually resolve.

Telogen Effluvium is what you are experiencing. It's your hair growth cycle rebooting and will stop in a couple of months. Just rest assured that your hair is being pushed out by new hair ready to emerge. Get yourself a makeover and cut in some layers to blend in that new growth so you don't look like a chia pet.

Happend to me at about three months out. It does stop and slowly my hair started growing in again. I had a period after that where my hair did not need to be cut for six months... it just stopped growing. My hair is better now, but still a lot thinner than it used to be. I'll take it, though. Rather be thinner everywhere.

I had to stop Biotin as it was messing up all my liver enzyme tests. I have a new round of tests this week.

It'll stop and come back. Mine started at 3 months, continued at an alarming rate until about 6 months. I thought I would be bald, but I wasn't. Then it started to grow back and fall out at a lesser rate. At about 8-9 months it was back to a normal rate of loss and I looked like a baby chick with all the new sprouts on my head. I'm now at 13 months post op and my sprouts are an annoying 2-3 inches long and difficult to make lay down!
