Am I giving up too soon?

I'm about 5'9 and my goal is 160, but honestly my consideration is hoping I settle around 190-180, because I think I'll be most comfortable there. I've already gone down in my chest and my butt is threatening to run away as well. I need that butt, it's a good feature.

It's all very personal. I was a lightweight when I had surgery (top BMI was a 44, BMI at surgery was a 36.2). So, I think it was easy for me to end up where I am. My original goal was 160 and then my stretch goal was 145. I am hoping that I'll defy the laws of bounce back, but given that's unlikely I figure maybe I'll level out at my stretch goal eventually.

I had a size 8 ring finger when obese and have not changed ring sizes after losing 100lbs! Maybe I'm not small framed after all!

I had a size 6 ring finger when at my highest and went to a 4.5. Not sure fingers are a measurement of frame size?? More wrists.

congrats to you and take it slow.... I am still learning and accepting myself all these years out.

My wrist measures at small/medium frame size but I have HUGE hands and fingers. I was a size 9 or bigger before WL and I think I'm still certainly an 8. I don't wear rings anymore to size myself.

I've had the same questions.

I'm about 18 months out. My goal is/was 175-185 and I'm 5'9". I got to 191 and life avalanched on me with my usual health problems over the winter and all sorts of things going on. I don't have the energy to watch my diet as closely as I would need to, or cook as healthy as I should, in order to get those last 10-20 off.

So I've been just trying to eat protein forward (I don't do low carb) and watch my portion sizes and maintain through the winter. I've maintained right around 195. Girl Scout cookie season came and I found myself up to 199. That raised my danger flag because I have a mental freakout at the idea of hitting 200 again, and I tightened up and am back to 194-195 now.

I have been trying to decide if my initial goal of 175 was too light. As the weather warms up I typically start feeling better and have more energy for cooking, exercising, etc.. I have pretty much decided that I do want to do a push for 185 and if I can make 175 great. I have exceeded all of the doctor's goals for me, and have improved my health so much just getting to 195 that in one light anything lower is just bonus.

But I've pretty much decided that whatever I manage this spring/summer is as far as I'm going to pu**** Other than my chronic stuff that isn't going away, I feel pretty good at 195, and I like how I look. For me, the ultimate goal is to keep from gaining. So I weigh most days, and while fluctuation is fine, if I find myself staying higher, I tighten things up until I'm back down. It's a lot easier to get off 5# than 10# or more. So I am hoping as long as I stay on top of it, I can keep from regain.

Personally, I think chasing anything other than health can be a slippery slope. if you feel chubby in the 120's is there a dysmorphia at play? I had a goal number but it was more like a rough guideline. the number I really focused on was healthy body fat and keeping it in the healthy range for my age. I'm now at the bottom end of the range and I weigh at least 10 lbs more than you.

I've been as small as 131, but can't maintain that without being 100% on plan. and a lot of effort. It should not be that hard/feel like restriction. if it does, are you on a diet? how did that work for you before? also I think feeling deprived is "fat brain" thinking and not healthy in the long term.

I can maintain 135 without food being the obsessive center of my existence. I think that is much healthier mentally than dieting to maintain a size zero, much as it would be nice to wear that goal size zero dress, that isn't why I had this surgery and it is a goal I let go of, because it simply didn't serve any purpose.

People that knew me when I was fat (family, friends, colleagues) think I'm too skinny right now. However, new acquaintances don't think the same; they think I look good, and my PCP is fine with my current weight. I may be thinner than folks have ever seen me at but my energy is great and all of my comorbidities have resolved. I'm not concerned at this point as I have room for bounce back while staying within normal BMI range.

OP: If you want to lose some more, do it, and don't worry about what anyone else says!

IMHO "bounceback" is not a medical term that describes a post-WLS biochemical/metabolic phenomenon.

It means you've gained weight.

Again, MHO.
