Quest bars and braces

I hope to have braces by the end of April. "Yay."

Have any of you had issues with braces and Quest bars? I wonder if they might pose a problem due to being firm and chewy.

My youngest has braces and my oldest had them (off about a year) they could/can not eat anything sticky.... chewy or moist type granola bars, carmels, gum, gummy vitamins popcorn all off limits! Anything sticky!

The orthodontist, like all dentists, has a "two-hour rule": you can eat and drink after two hours. In the case of braces, this also works. However, the timing of the first meal is more up to the patient. Some may eat right after coming home, while others take longer to get used to their new position and hardly eat for the first 24-48 hours after the procedure. Orthodontists advise you to completely avoid solid foods: nuts, smoked meats, caramel, hard cookies. Although it may still depend on the professionalism of the doctor and his skills in the oral surgery.

I would not have had problems with Quest bars. They are more doughy than sticky. I only avoided caramel/toffee. I still ate most of the other things people claim to avoid.

My mother worked for 20+ years as an orthodontic assistant, soooo?

If you go with Invisalign or other tray-based ones, it doesn't matter as you take them off to eat...

Sadly Invisalign won't correct the issues I have.

Rats. The brackets aren't very comfortable. (I had them twice).

I had them when I was in middle school. In good news, it seems like the brackets my new orthodontist used are way smaller than the ones I had as a kid! And it'll only be 14 months. Woo!

That's great news! My first set were the kind with every tooth fully banded. Awful. Second ones were the glued on kind.

Everyone is diffierent. Personally, I could chew gum and eat chewy things with braces.
